Mixed review. First, the positives. Lovely location; building has the best unobstructed view of Hanalei Bay and the ocean in all of HBR. Primary bed is comfy. New LR sofa is great. Well stocked with beach and snorkeling supplies except for umbrella. Unit is spacious and well laid out. Unit is furthest from the parking lot so not great if you have ambulatory issues but, for me, well worth the walk. We have been going to HBR for the past 14 years and have stayed in at least 13 different privately owned condos, including this one several times. First time under Vacasa management. I say this because sometimes I read HBR complaints about the condition of a unit and I think people forget that they're in a tropical climate in older buildings with insects and wildlife. I'm fairly forgiving but this unit has been seriously neglected since our last stay. Upon arrival, we contacted Vacasa about the lanai, which had not been cleaned in ages and was filthy. Bird droppings all over tile floor, furniture, and railings. Tile floor hadn't been mopped in ages. Vacasa had me send photo evidence and promised to have it cleaned but never followed through. I was so embarrassed by the condition of the lanai that I did my best to clean it up somewhat before friends came over for dinner. I didn't have gloves or a mop and worried about getting sick from handling the bird droppings. Gross. Vacasa should give us a cleaning refund. We also told Vacasa that several kitchen outlets and the microwave were not working. They told us to find the circuit breaker which told me that they are so big and generic that they don't know that renters have no access to circuit breakers at HBR, which are locked outside the unit. They then told me to ask HBR management to reset the circuit breakers. I see this as a rental management task, not mine. I'm paying a lot of money for a functional property and I'm on vacation! Carpets are filthy, worn, and need to be cleaned. Better yet, replace them and the very chipped tile floors with new tile. Carpet doesn't belong in tropical beach units. When we turned the bathroom fan on in 9204, dozens of bugs, both dead and alive, blew out. Kitchen needs an inventory check. We had 6 forks and 6 knives for four people. A blender would be nice; it had one before. And Vacasa should provide kleenex. Unpleasant to wipe nose with TP. Lanai furniture needs to be replaced! One table and its chairs are wobbly and unsafe. The other set has a chair with rusty screws sticking out. Having stayed in many other units, the best combo for the main lanai is an elevated table with wipe-able surface, to clean off bird poop, not wood, along with a couple of comfy chairs, even better, with a reclining feature, for reading and relaxing. Overall, the unit needs some maintenance and restocking. It doesn't have to be fancy but it needs to be clean and maintained. If I were the owner, I'd be upset that Vacasa is taking such poor care of my property.
The view was unbelievable! Very large unit. Surprised that the master bedroom didn’t have air conditioner, just a dehumidifier that would go off all the time. We should have scopes it out better before letting the kids pick their room. Biggest complaint was how run down the bathrooms were. Visible black mould. Very dated and poorly maintained bathrooms. Shower heads either need to be replaced, thoroughly cleaned or seriously soaked in CLR. Zero water pressure in either bathroom because of this.
What a wonderful stay we had at the Hanalei Bay Resort. This unit has an incredible view of the Bay, surfers, and beach below. We watched the rainbows in the morning and the sunsets in the evening. The condo is well stocked with pack and plays (2), beach chairs, small/medium cooler bags, pop up tent and umbrella for shade, a boogie board, and some snorkel equipment. Hanalei Bay Resort provides beach towels. HBR has a great balance of privacy, resort amenities (beautiful pool, fun restaurant, and pizza takeout to pool or beach from Wiki Pizza in the old Bali High Restaurant...pool bar currently closed indefinitely :( and this unit in the Bamboo building was perfect for our family of 4. Each bedroom had a King size bed with lots of room to spread out and have privacy between the two bedrooms. Would come back! Love the HBR!
