The neighborhood: Poipu is Kauai's sunny south-shore beach community, an easy contrast to the wetter North Shore. Spouting Horn and Old Koloa Town are worthwhile stops for a drive day, and the area has golf, dining, and shopping close by. It is an easygoing choice for families who want beach access, warm weather, and plenty of nearby options without having to map out every day.

Getting around: Lihue Airport is about 30 to 40 minutes away, a pretty drive across Kauai's south shore. A rental car is recommended to reach Poipu's beaches, Koloa town's shops, and nearby dining with ease. Old Koloa Town is walkable for boutiques and restaurants, while beautiful beaches are just a short drive away. Parking is generally available on site or in small lots around town.
