Overview
Located on a quiet cul-de-sac, this magnificent, custom home was built in 2008 by a contractor for his personal residence. Attention to detail is evident throughout, with use of the finest flooring, fixtures, and molding. The house is located on Kaikio Ewa Place, a street named for one of Kauai’s governors who was known throughout the island for having the finest home of his day. We have chosen to name our house Blue Hawaii House in honor of Elvis Presley‘s love for the island of Kauai and his most famous Hawaiian movie which was filmed on our island. A memento to the King of Rock hangs in our great room. As one enters the large double doors, a wooden inlay of a pineapple welcomes you into the house. The flooring throughout is Tuscan travertine and hardwood. A large dining room with seating for eight is located to the right of the foyer and the great room is located straight ahead. The great room has high 20-foot ceilings, a large screen TV, a breakfast bar, and is furnished with the finest sea grass style plantation furniture. Beyond the living room is the fully equipped gourmet kitchen, complete with an instant hot water dispenser, island, gas cook-top, pot filler, and double ovens. There is also an informal dining area that seats eight. Behind the kitchen is an office. A laundry room, a bar with a wine refrigerator, and a den with two futon couches are also located on the first floor. Adjacent to the den is a full bathroom and a master bedroom suite complete with a full bathroom, shower, and Jacuzzi tub. Two of the bedrooms have their own sinks but share a common bathtub/shower and toilet. One of the bedrooms has a screened lanai. On the first floor, we have a large, covered and screened lanai accessible from the master bedroom, great room, and kitchen with two doors leading to the backyard. Inside, our garden furniture includes a large round table with four chairs, a loveseat with a coffee table, and two chairs with footrests. The oversized backyard also has a hot-and-cold shower built against a wall of lava rock and a barbecue located in a covered shelter with countertops along the sides. Behind the backyard is a walkway which runs along the perimeter of a large park. Beyond the park is a public library and the Princeville Shopping Mall, which includes restaurants, a grocery store, and convenience stores - all only a three-minute walk from the house. We are only a 10-minute walk to the pathway to Anini Beach. We have installed free WiFi and an Island QuietCool Cooling System, consisting of four large fans upstairs which expel hot air from the attic and produce a breeze pulling in cool air from outside. We have also upgraded our lighting in the house to be exclusively LED. This home offers a myriad of entertainment amenities: • 70' flatscreen tv with surround sound (living room) • Various DVDs • Enclosed lanai • Wine fridge • Private hot tub • Island Cooling System: Blue Hawaii House features an eco-friendly island cooling system. Utilizing much less energy than conventional air-conditioning, the system takes advantage of the prevailing island tradewinds. Four large turbines in the attic area serve to circulate the air in the house every three minutes by pulling in cool air from open windows downstairs and expelling the warm air near the ceiling and in the attic. The controls for the four turbines are located upstairs. Two are in the upstairs hallway, one is in the second bedroom, and one is in the third bedroom. The buttons for speed and length of time are on the control panels. Remember to leave some windows at least partially opened downstairs when using the cooling system. If you want to stay in a residential quiet neighborhood and experience Kauai living, this is a great place to do so. House is spacious with plenty of beds and bathrooms!
Beautiful home!
Our group of 8 had a great time. The house had plenty of space. The kitchen was well outfitted and we cooked several dinners. The hot tub was nice. There were several boogie boards, beach chairs, and snorkel gear in the garage that worked well. A grocery store, shops, and restaurant just a 5 min walk from the house. We really enjoyed our visit.
A stunning house that accommodated our family of 9. Everyone was comfortable and enjoyed the community of Princeville and the nearby village of Hanalei.
The Blue Hawaii house served as a great home-base to come back to after exploring the island each day. The house does need a little TLC in regard to general maintenence and deep cleaning, but overall it's a beautiful home. To be very clear, there is no a/c. There are wind turbines in the attic(aka a whole house fan). There is a black cooling unit that attaches to a window, but it blows cool air for 30 seconds and pulls warm air in the rest of the time, cancelling out any cool air. It literally does NOTHING to cool the house down, even when left on all day. There are extra fans in each closet for a more comfortable night's sleep, and you do acclimate to the weather after a few days. The beds and pillows were quite comfortable. There were plenty of bathrooms for a large group. There was ample seating for dining in, but only seating for 5 in the living room. We remedied this by moving one of the futons from the other room to the living room to accommodate our group of 8 for the duration of our stay. The chickens are hilarious! Especially the roosters that are just hitting puberty and learning how to crow! The baby chicks are super cute! The beach towels were plentiful for a large group and were great for a day at the beach! It was easy to throw them in the wash for fresh towels the next day! Be mindful that washing machines need to be left open when not in use to avoid mold growing on the inside of the machine, especially in such a humid climate. The kitchen could use newer pots and pans, as the current ones are trashed and toxic to cook with. We did buy a ceramic skillet to use during our stay. We also had to purchase some basic kitchen amenities, such as spices, sandwich bags, waxed paper, etc. Overall, if you are traveling with a large group, the Blue Hawaii house is a great place to stay!
