The place was clean, weird setup with the bedroom downstairs and completly separate from main living area and having to go through the carport, outside, to get to a bathroom downstairs. The kitchen and living area was nice. The directions that were sent in the email sent us to a non-existent address out in the middle of nowhere so we had to stop and figure out the actual address. ZERO customer support provided, it took them 24 hours to respond to us each time we asked a question. I would not use this service again.

We had a great time, bri g some games for rainy weather! But very pretty, remote spot. 15 mins from Natl park entrance.

The location near Volcanos National Park is great. The house has the sound of frogs at night and the overall outside is nice to be amongst and relax. The indoor amenities are lacking at this current moment. There was never more than a lukewarm shower. The fact of bringing your own drinking water to this place is pretty annoying overall since everything is pretty far away. Having to remove your own trash at the end is about the dumbest thing I've heard at a homestay and can be very inconvenient if you leave when the transfer stations in the area are not open. You will likely have to use someone's dumpster which isn't exactly great. The utensils and kitchen items are lacking. Most other homestays have things for guests to use like spices, this had a few coffee packets and that's it, no condiments or anything. The place had 5 remotes and a DVD player. The DVD player was broken. About 4 of the remotes didn't work and the Dish remote used for control of everything wasn't very good at it's job. About 10 Dish channels to watch and not really possible to get to smart functions of the TV. The bedroom being downstairs wasn't that bad overall it was a little less convenient. The location of the pullout was better but the bed in it was less comfortable than the floor would have been. To top off the stay there was a leak in the bathroom when we first got there that seemed to be a persistent leak and it made the laundry room have a massive puddle to walk through and the floor in the bathroom always had to have a towel on it. Overall, the location is great. The place itself was the work experience I've had at a homestay/ Airbnb type place in the last 6 years. Usually they feel more homey and are just more user friendly is the best way to put it

This is a very interesting house for people with a sense of fun. Staying here for a week was like living in a jungle gym! So, if you have a fun sense of play and can live in a very flexible way, this house is for you! The spacious living room is over the garage, and the bedroom is actually behind the garage, totally separate from the upstairs and is accessible via outside stairs. (See what I mean about having a sense of fun?) Along with the coqui frogs at night and the farm animal sounds from next door mixed with DEAD QUIET, it's a one of a kind experience!!

Proximity to Volcanoes National Park was amazing. Place is a little awkwardly laid out but was comfortable. Loved feeling like we were in the middle of the jungle.

Overall this was a fantastic place to stay. Only 10 mins from Volcano National Park! The pros - the house was clean, it was nice, very pretty house area, laundry area was wonderful as we had to use it, close to where we wanted to go. The cons - as others have said the bedroom is outside and downstairs which is fine in general but if you need to use the bathroom you do have to go outside and upstairs, and around the deck to use. Which we did not have to do but it was a not pleasant thought when we went to bed. Especially if it would have been raining. The washer/dryer is beside the bedroom which we did use and I was very thankful for the use of it. Please note that it took an hour for the washer to be done (which mine is about 30 mins so it felt like it took forever) and the dryer was over an hour (I actually stopped it for the first load and took anything dry out b/c I didn't have time to wait all night for it to end). Neither of these are a make it or break it, just wanted to provide context for future plannings. My 2 biggest cons which is the reason for a star to be removed. The first one is the garbage has to be removed by the person staying. Housekeeping does not take care of that. Which in general is fine. Except you have to drive the garbage to the disposal place and it is only open 3 days a week. The day we left it was not open, So we had to take it with us. Which we were lucky as our next place had a place for trash and we used it, but if we had to be heading to the airport or had some place we had to go and we had to go find a dumpster in a place we are not familiar with and wifi is spotty at best I would have been upset and i do not think it is right that it is our responsibility to find a garbage dumpster when we are not familiar with the area. The other con is that Vacasa provides the 4 digit lockbox code before you arrive which is awesome. They fail to mention that the door actually needs 2 ways to get in. One lockbox code, the other is by a key that is in ANOTHER lockbox that the code (or location) is not provided. This secondary lockbox code had a set of keys that 1 key got us in the house, another key got us into the bedroom and i believe a 3rd key got us into the laundry room. I don't understand why Vacasa wouldn't have provided all of this information in the text. Instead we had to call and hope we had service to get through to their customer service. Overall the pros did outweigh the cons for us, but please be aware of these. I also didn't realize that Volcano and Hilo were so close and if we were to come back I don't know if i would choose to stay in Volcano again when Hilo is not that far away in the grand scheme of things.
