Overview
Some vacations you remember for the pictures. This one you will remember for the sound of the surf across the road, the smell of plumeria on the way to the pool, and how quickly you stopped checking your phone. Your home for the week is a bright one-bedroom on the first floor of a friendly three-story walk-up. Just a few steps up and you are in the door. That small detail shapes the whole trip. Groceries, beach chairs, and snorkel gear all come in the easy way, and you are back out on Alii Drive in under a minute when the water is calling. The lanai is the heart of it. Step out into mature tropical landscaping: swaying palms, plumeria in bloom, and green that stays green all year. Morning coffee out there with the birds is the calmest part of the day. Dinner out there, plates full and the light going gold, is the part you will talk about on the flight home. Inside is easy island living. Beachy decor and wicker furniture, ceiling fans keeping every room breezy, and a full kitchen ready for a slow pancake morning or a fresh-caught ono dinner. Cable TV for the ballgame, and fast free WiFi for streaming, catching up on work, or plotting tomorrow's snorkel spot. A comfortable fit for two, with room for a third. A private bedroom plus a sleeper sofa in the living area, which makes this an easy choice for couples, a pair of friends, or a small family. Nothing oversized, nothing wasted. Honest value in a location people pay a premium for. You are across the street from the ocean on Alii Drive, walking distance to sand and some of Kona's best food, with a pool and hot tub on site. Put your money into the sunset cruise and the coffee farm tour instead of the square footage. On the grounds, the pool and hot tub are waiting, oceanfront lawns invite a barefoot wander, and the surf keeps time all night. This is a small, warm complex with real old-Kona character. What's nearby: You'll find all the public beaches you can ask for at Magic Sands Beach Park, just one mile south. Want some terrific hiking? Spend an afternoon on Walua Trail. You can also go on a great walk at Maka'eo Walking Path. Get in a little snorkeling at Kahalu’u Beach Park, two miles south. Head across the street to enjoy a little poke from Da Poke Shack or visit some other popular eateries like Foster's Kitchen and Huggo's.
What's Nearby Poke steps from your door. Da Poke Shack sits right in the Kona Bali Kai complex, and locals line up early before it sells out. Grab a bowl, walk back, and eat it on your own lanai with the ocean in earshot. It is the best five-minute lunch on the island. Sand and sea turtles. Magic Sands Beach Park is about a mile down Alii Drive, a pleasant 20-minute walk or a two-minute drive, and it is the local pick for bodysurfing and sunset. Kahalu'u Beach Park is five minutes south and one of Hawaii's most forgiving snorkel entries, with green sea turtles most mornings and clouds of reef fish in calm, shallow water. Alii Drive is your front porch. Walk or run north along the water past seawalls, beach access, and shave ice stands, all the way toward Kailua village. Sunrise walks here are quiet and glorious. Dinner, sorted. Coconut Grove Marketplace is about half a mile north. Island Lava Java for breakfast and oceanside dinners, Sushi Shiono when you want something special, Humpy's Big Island Alehouse for a cold one and the game, and Gypsea Gelato or Gecko Girlz Shave Ice for the walk home. Huggo's and Huggo's On The Rocks sit just beyond, right on the water, still the classic Kona sunset table. A little farther afield. Magics Beach Grill across from Magic Sands, Jackie Rey's Ohana Grill a mile and a half north, and Keauhou Shopping Center six minutes south for groceries, a pharmacy, and a movie. Easy in, easy out. Kona International Airport is about 20 minutes north, with Keauhou, Captain Cook, and the Holualoa coffee farms all comfortable day trips.
Rent a car. The Big Island is genuinely big, and the best of it is a drive: the coffee farms of Holualoa, the painted church and bay at Captain Cook, Waipio Valley, the volcano. A rental car is the honest recommendation and it makes the whole island yours. Kona International Airport is about 20 minutes north, and the condo has parking on site. But you can absolutely have a car-free day. That is part of the appeal of this address. Da Poke Shack is in the complex. Magic Sands Beach Park is a 20-minute walk down Alii Drive. Coconut Grove Marketplace and its restaurants are about half a mile north, close enough to walk to dinner and back with gelato in hand. The ocean is right across the road. Farmers markets without a long drive. Ali'i Gardens Marketplace is under a mile north on Alii Drive, walkable in about 20 minutes or two minutes by car, open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 to 5, with local artisans, Kona coffee roasters, beach gear, and food stalls. On Saturday mornings the Keauhou Farmers Market runs 8 to noon at Keauhou Shopping Center, about six minutes south. The big Kona Village Farmers Market downtown, at Alii Drive and Hualalai Road, runs Wednesday through Sunday from 7 to 4 and is worth the short drive or bus ride. The trolley is a real option. The Hele-On Route 201 Kona Trolley has a stop right at Kona Bali Kai and runs seven days a week, roughly every hour from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM. It connects you to Kahalu'u Beach, Magic Sands, Coconut Grove Marketplace, downtown Kailua-Kona, and Keauhou Shopping Center. Plenty of guests use it for a dinner in town or a beach day without moving the car. Check current schedules and fares before you plan around it. Grocery run. Keauhou Shopping Center is about six minutes south for groceries, a pharmacy, and a movie theater, with more markets and Costco up in town.

We enjoy our stay so much!
This unit was fine for two people. It had everything we could have needed, was close to Kona, and had a nice grassy place in which to watch the sunset! The staff was very helpful at answering a few questions we had and even came over to help us find the pool key which we did not see at first.
It was fun to discover all the amenities. Fancy gadgets that we did not even have at home. Was nice to have the instructions for the Internet TV handy. Good supply of towels and other household items. Thanks we enjoyed it.
