Welcome to Hale Ohana home away from home! This charming and classic three-bedroom 50’s rural home is just outside Hilo (four miles to the edge of downtown), making it a reasonable accommodation for a family or group of friends. Conveniently located on the Hawaii Belt Road, this home is very close to the start of the four-mile scenic drive. The Hawai’ian Tropical Botanical Gardens and Onomea Bay are just over a mile away. It is ideally located for people visiting the Hamakua Coast (Akaka Falls, and even the Waipio Valley). Back at home, guests have access to a fully equipped kitchen with stainless steel appliances, a washer/dryer, WiFi should you need to plug in, and Cable TV. The sound of the stream flowing below the hillside can be heard from two of the bedrooms while the neighbor’s goats and cows frolicking in their expansive yard to the south set the scene for the home's rural environment. And not to mention, the coqui frogs singing their symphony every evening. The cozy living room offers comfortable furnishings and is the perfect place to retreat after a day of adventure.

Guests have a private entrance, single-level layout, garden and backyard, plus a kitchen, WiFi, washer, dryer, and cable TV. There are no shared pool or resort facilities. This is a private rural home, with outdoor space for taking in the garden setting after a day on the Hamakua Coast.

The neighborhood: Papaikou is a quiet plantation-era community just north of Hilo, where the Hamakua Coast turns lush, green, and waterfall-rich. The Hawai‘i Tropical Botanical Garden and Onomea Bay are close by, and the scenic coastal drive begins nearby. Plan on driving into Hilo for restaurants, groceries, the farmers market, and the waterfront. Akaka Falls makes an easy northbound outing. This is a genuine country base for guests who want botanical gardens, rainy-day beauty, and Hilo access rather than a resort strip. Getting around: Hilo International Airport (ITO) is about 15 to 20 minutes from Papaikou. A rental car is recommended for Hilo's beaches, shops, and restaurants down the coast. Papaikou is a quiet small community with limited walkable services, so most errands mean a quick drive. Parking is generally simple, with spaces available at properties or along the street in many areas.
