Sugar Beach Resort 434

Book in this resort but another unit. Resort staff was great, location great, unit should be delisted so it doesn't bring down everyone else's reputation.

My wife and I have stayed at Sugar Beach Resort four times and love the location. This property is beachfront where guests can take long walks on Sugar Beach in each direction. To the west, a walk on the beach is interrupted for three miles. To the east, a walk on the beach will take you to an ABC Store and the Sugar Beach Bake Shop, a must stop for great morning pastries. After crossing a pier, a walk this way continues on. We also love the quietness being away from the hubbub of downtown Kihei and Waialua. The view from our Unit 434 lanai was perfect for watching whales (in season from mid-December through March) off in the distance and amazing sunsets when the clouds cooperated. Another plus, in our opinion, is Sugar Beach Resort's central location on Maui. Less than 20 minutes from Kahului airport, 90 minutes to the summit of Haleakala, an hour to the Nakalele Blow Hole past Kapalua, and of course the Road to Hana taking anywhere from two to three hours. On site is Dina's Sandwitch, is a quirky bar/cafe with wonderful employees, Jan is amazing, and good food at reasonable price. A pool, hot tub, and BBQ grills are amenities adding to the Sugar Beach Resort Experience. Provided in this unit were beach chairs, snorkeling equipment, and a boogie board. The kitchen was fully stocked with all utensils and cooking ware we needed. Our unit's air conditioner shut down due to a malfunction of lanai sensor (when the door to the lanai is open, the air conditioner shuts off). After reporting the issue to the office, this issue was resolved very quickly. Some recommendations for improvement to this unit would include replacing the spigot on the kitchen sink (it likes to drip) along with the toaster (it works but has seen its better days). The unit's carpet and lanai table are close needing to be replaced. Minor issues for sure and didn't take away from our great experience. FYI, our favorite adventures on Maui were watching sunrise over Haleakala (reserve permits through recreation.gov for each day of your visit and then cherry pick the best weather morning, drive the Road to Hana visiting Waianapanapa State Park (a black sand beach with advanced reservations required) and then continue on to hike the Pipiwai Trail in Haleakala National Park on the SE side of the island, a whale watching cruise - when in season, and a stop at the Nakalele Blow Hole. After hiking the Pipiwai Trail, we drove the remote Pi'ilani Highway along the rugged SE side of Maui back to Kihei. This road is much improved from the last time we drove it. No services and narrow at times with a few, short sections of rough, unpaved road, don't be afraid to travel this route. If you know where, you can stop and visit the gravesite of famed aviator Charles Lindbergh, who is buried on the remote side of the island. There is no doubt my wife and I will return to Sugar Beach Resort for another visit.

We loved Sugar Beach Resort 434. Our third visit to a unit there in three years.

Sugar Beach is a great resort. We’ve stayed there many times in the past at several different units and all were very well kept. This unit is in need of basic TLC, such as painting, new carpet and furniture.

What we loved about the unit was the location, the view, and sugarbeach property. This location is fabulous; just not this outdated unit.

Great location and views but outdated & disappointing maintenance as a Marriott affiliated property.
