The neighborhood: Kamaole Beach Park III is close enough to make a quick swim or snorkel part of the day, sitting across South Kihei Road from Maui Kamaole. Keawakapu Beach is nearby for a different shoreline, and Wailea is an easy drive south for dining and a change of scenery. The complex brings two pools, including a heated lower pool, a spa, tennis courts, and barbecue areas into the mix. South Kihei works well when you want beach access without giving up the convenience of a home base.

Getting around: Kahului Airport is about 20 to 30 minutes away, an easy drive down Maui's sunny south shore. A rental car is recommended to make the most of Kihei's many beaches, shops, and restaurants spread along the coast. Some stretches near South Kihei Road are walkable to dining and shopping, while beaches are often just minutes away. Parking is typically available on site, in lots, or along nearby streets.
