The neighborhood: South Kihei is at its easiest around Kamaole Beach Park II, directly across the road from Kihei Akahi. Walk north about a half mile to Kamaole I, or stay close for swimming and an unhurried sunset. Cafe O'Lei, Moose McGillycuddy's, Coconut's Fish Cafe, and the Kinaole Grill Food Truck keep casual meals within reach. Two pools, tennis courts, and barbecue areas add a low-key alternative to another beach afternoon.

Getting around: Kahului Airport is about 20 to 30 minutes away, an easy drive down Maui's sunny south shore. A rental car is recommended to make the most of Kihei's many beaches, shops, and restaurants spread along the coast. Some stretches near South Kihei Road are walkable to dining and shopping, while beaches are often just minutes away. Parking is typically available on site, in lots, or along nearby streets.
