This house is NOT wheelchair accessible! Seven of us enjoyed this cute "wheelchair accessible" house. We got around well in some parts of the house, and enjoyed driving around the area. The grounds were beautiful, and the birdsong was abundant! The house boasts two living areas, a porch, a terrace, AND a deck. The mobile members of our family roamed freely over the indoors and outdoors, but our mobility-challenged family members were much more restricted in their access. Unfortunately, the keypad code did not work after we arrived and even after it was reset numerous times. We had to use the key from the lock box for the entirety of our stay. It was frustrating to have no code and no communication for long periods in the day. Some of us arrived at the house and had to sit outside while awaiting help with the key code. Two nights, we sat in our vehicles awhile because the house was not available due to the dysfunctional keypad. No agent arrived to help, and the phone rep let me know they couldn't reach a manager. Again, this issue was never resolved during our entire stay. There is a sugar ant infestation in the table, around the trash can, at the kitchen sink behind the trim and backsplash, and along the dining room and living room walls. We mentioned the problem repeatedly. Not all of the chairs are in good shape. One burgundy one has upholstery coming off, exposed staples, and a very wiggly arm which had previously broken off and been nailed back, leading to an unsafe support for whoever sat in the chair. The main reason we booked this house was because of the accessible shower with seat and glass doors. The one pictured in the listing is not the shower in the bathroom. Two of our family members who have mobility issues were unable to shower for TWO DAYS because there were no doors or curtains. (The people do not have the ability to step into the tub/shower combo in the other bathroom.) We were told the team was working on it and had experienced delays in receiving online orders. (But, we noticed local shops carried supplies.) Since the bathroom floor is tiled, we finally used the open shower, and the flooring was easily dried by a caregiver. On day three, late in the afternoon - and only after we stated our intent to use the shower as is - did the maintenance person come to the house to install a temporary rod and curtains! (He arrived after we had already used the shower and dried the floor.) The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) ensures equal opportunity, access, and participation, requiring reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals. All requested accommodations were reasonable, yet the lack of compliance was in clear violation of the law. A wheelchair user would find navigating this house difficult due to the floor joints and rugs. There is also no ramp entrance. The existing ramp requires a step up into the dwelling. The listing should make it VERY CLEAR that this is NOT a "wheelchair accessible" house.
We came from Ecuador, California, Oregon and Connecticut for our sister’s memorial. The house was perfect for us. Great shower, great bathtub, comfy beds, 2 large patios, 2 separate living areas. The setting was gorgeous and quiet. It far exceeded our expectations.
