We sought a large house in Maine for a family reunion this summer and found it at On the Rocks Retreat. The space was clean, had lots of amenities to make our stay comfortable, and with the space for 8 adults to relax together (and small nooks when one needed some personal down time). The interior decorations were tasteful and welcoming to where every room was someone's special place. We found ourselves enjoying Maine outdoor fun nearby (hikes, kayaking, beach, and lobster rolls of course) then heading to the sauna to cap off our day. We even saw a whale from the full picture windows in the sauna. This is Maine with an elegant twist! We look forward to our next visit to On the Rocks Retreat.
I had the absolute pleasure to have my 50th, along with 3 of my closest friends, celebration at this gorgeous and peaceful location. It was perfect. There was MORE than enough room for everyone. You could stay in one room one day and another the next and still find a room you hadn't experienced yet. The barn is such an awesome extra. So many options for games, sleeping space, and dancing if you so desired. The nearby beaches and trails were a great way to start your day with a nice walk and enjoy nature. The balcony overlooking the water was all of our favorite place to be. The view never got old and was just so relaxing. We spent a lot of time here and wish I was still there. All of the Bedrooms, bathrooms, and sitting areas had everything you could need and more. I hope to have the opportunity to stay and this place again. Retreat is a great way to describe it.
We stayed at 14 Carriage Lane to host a small yoga retreat, and it couldn’t have been a better fit. The property is absolutely beautiful—surrounded by tall trees, quiet, and set far enough back from the road that it feels totally private. It had such a calm, grounding energy that really supported the retreat experience we were hoping to create. The house itself is spacious, clean, and clearly well cared for. Everything felt thoughtfully set up—from the fully stocked kitchen to the cozy linens and welcoming common areas. There were plenty of spaces to gather as a group, as well as quiet corners to relax solo. The deck and yard were especially peaceful in the mornings, and we loved taking time there with coffee before starting the day. The sauna was a standout feature—everyone in the group appreciated having that available, especially after long days of movement and reflection. It added something really special to the overall experience. The host was responsive, organized, and genuinely welcoming. You can tell they’ve put a lot of care into the space and into making sure guests feel at home. Everything was easy, from booking to check-out. We’d absolutely return—whether for another retreat or just a quiet escape. Highly recommend this spot if you’re looking for a peaceful setting with comfort, privacy, and natural beauty.
Very nice house. Screwy house rules.
Very spacious and comfortable and was very clean. View was breathtaking and enjoyed daily shows by the whales, seals and eagles. Other than the inconveniences of broken items throughout the house, we had a great time. Would not recommend renting until all those items are all fixed.
WOW pretty much sums it up. I rented On the Rocks to celebrate my husband’s 50th birthday with family and friends. This house made the trip spectacular. Our party of 12, did not want to leave the house, we were enjoying it too much. The views, from every room in the house, are simply jaw dropping, and there is a space for everyone to unwind and relax including the most incredible sauna I have ever seen. The kitchen Is stalked with every pot, pan and utensil you can think of, including oyster knifes , which we used to chuck our fresh oysters and my sister law spent 3 days baking everything from scratch ( Cakes, crepes, break and lobsters) the kitchen had everything. The kids had a blast in the barn ( so many games and Billard table too) and Reid State Park next door for short hikes, And I was able to order groceries on-line delivered to the front door. It was heaven on earth. Lisa was so lovely and extremely responsive to all my questions and left us a very sweet gesture knowing we were there to celebrate a milestone Birthday. We will be back. Highly recommend.
