Overview
The Russian River glimmers through the trees below your hot tub at this dog-friendly Monte Rio lodge. This dog-friendly cottage perched above the water offers a gas fireplace and room for 4. Just 5 minutes from Guerneville's restaurants and 15 from the Sonoma Coast. Your deck becomes a front-row seat to river life — watch kayakers drift by as eagles soar overhead. This is Monte Rio magic: where time slows down and the river sets the pace.
A distinctive arched window frames Russian River views from this upgraded Monte Rio hillside cottage. Dark hardwood floors, white walls, and mid-century touches blend classic river charm with modern comfort. Settle into the leather sofa by the gas fireplace as sliding glass doors open to your private deck. A desk area offers a quiet corner for remote work, while track lighting and bamboo blinds warm the space. The kitchen features honey-toned cabinets, white countertops, stainless steel appliances including a French door refrigerator, and a gold-toned faucet — the open layout flowing seamlessly to the dining area. OUTDOOR LIVING Your stone patio hosts a hot tub alongside a fire pit table for evenings under the stars. The wooden deck features a gas grill with propane and seating with tropical-print pillows on patterned rugs. From this hillside perch, the Russian River winds through the forested valley below. SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS The main bedroom offers a queen bed beneath exposed ceiling beams with orange accent chairs. Downstairs, the basement provides a double/full bed in a cozy nook with vaulted ceilings and built-in shelving. Total capacity: 4 guests. PROPERTY AMENITIES -- Private hot tub -- Gas fireplace -- Fire pit table -- Gas grill with propane -- Full kitchen -- Washer and dryer -- High-speed internet (236.9 Mbps) -- Parking for 2 vehicles -- Dog-friendly (max 2 dogs, 80 lbs each)
Drop into the private hot tub on the stone patio, light the fire pit, and watch the river slip through the trees beyond the deck. You've got the whole home, dogs welcome, with a gas fireplace, outdoor dining, and a few separate sleeping structures across the property. Punch in the keypad code at the door; two small cars fit in the driveway.
Monte Rio perfectly balances riverside tranquility with easy access to Russian River attractions. Walk to Patterson Point Preserve (0.1 mi) for forest trails, or drive 5 minutes to Monte Rio Recreation & Park District (0.9 mi) where the family-friendly community beach offers shallow swimming and seasonal kayak rentals. Stock up on essentials at nearby Fern's Market (1.1 mi) or Bartlett's Market (1.2 mi). Start your mornings at Lightwave Coffee & Kitchen (1.4 mi), a local favorite serving excellent coffee and Middle Eastern-inspired dishes. For dinner, the historic Highland Dell Lodge (1.2 mi) offers German-American cuisine with river views. More dining awaits in Guerneville — try Saucy Mama's (2.0 mi) or the highly-rated Guerneville Taco Truck (2.1 mi). Wine enthusiasts will love the proximity to Russian River Valley tasting rooms. Visit Porter-Bass Winery (2.9 mi) for small-lot wines or the historic Korbel Winery (3.8 mi) for champagne tours.
Monte Rio is about 90 minutes from San Francisco via 101 and River Road — a winding drive through redwoods and river country. The cottage provides parking for two vehicles in the driveway. A car makes the Russian River Valley easy to explore, from redwood trails to riverside wineries. Cell service gets patchy in the redwoods, so downloading offline maps before you arrive is worth it.
The cottage stays naturally cool thanks to the redwood canopy and river breezes — like most Russian River properties, there's no air conditioning, though summer days can reach the 80s-90s. We provide high-speed internet (236 Mbps) perfect for streaming or remote work, though cell service can be spotty in the redwoods. Your dogs are welcome here! The property accommodates up to 2 dogs (80 lbs max each). They'll love exploring the forested surroundings and nearby trails. Please note you'll climb stairs from the parking area to reach the front door — the cottage is perched on the hillside for those spectacular views. The primary renter must be 21 or older. Take advantage of the washer and dryer for longer stays. For the best river experience, bring water shoes for rocky areas and binoculars for wildlife watching. The hot tub is serviced weekly and ready for star gazing.

Upon arrival I spent over an hour talking with customer service because the door code for the study bedroom was not initially shared with me and no one could give me a code that worked. The WiFi froze completely trying to stream live tv. Friday the hot tub stopped working. Exchanging texts all day Saturday did nothing to fix the issue. The propane for the fire pit went out on Friday. Saturday I was told to get more propane myself and they would reimburse me. I paid over $300 a night for the place I don’t want to have to go and deal with filling up a propane tank and want everything advertised to work. Check out time being at 10 is earlier than any other place but I was ok with it- until the cleaning person showed up ten minutes early and parked next to our car we were loading which made it hard to load our kayak. At 10am, when we still had a few more bags to bring down to our car, she headed up and started cleaning with some of our stuff still up there. I will say customer service was polite, but ultimately not very helpful aside from the key situation, which took texting with two different numbers then talking with someone on the phone. We were very disappointed with our stay. I am willing to overlook the fact that the “epic” view included a construction zone with a portopotty on the road that was directly in our line of sight from the balcony bc that’s not in management’s control, but overall very disappointed.
This cabin is beyond worth it. The view and amenities are amazing! Close to town and bodega bay.
The house is beautiful with an equally beautiful view of the Russian River from the living room and balcony. The house itself is cozy and cabin-like while at the same time spacious.
The views are breathtaking, the sky light windows were extremely beautiful and the perfect cozy little home, backyard jacuzzi area was wonderful, bed could be comfier in my opinion.
Nice place with a beautiful view! Not far from the coast.
We loved the view of the Russian River from the balcony- truly a postcard picture! The home is tastefully decorated with thoughtful touches like the throw pillows, the lighting, and the amazing hot tub! We loved that there were books and brochures left to peruse. We felt very comfortable and safe there, and would love to visit again!
