Overview
Austin Creek rushes past your deck at this whimsical cottage, where a sleeping loft and creative touches set the mood. Your dogs will love exploring the fenced yard while you soak up the redwood-filtered light from colorful Adirondack chairs. This cheerful 2-bedroom retreat sleeps 4 and sits directly on the creek. Just 15 minutes from Guerneville's restaurants and 30 minutes from dramatic Salt Point State Park.
This storybook cottage soars with cathedral ceilings and honey-toned beams, its peaked tower flooding the space with light through clerestory windows. Colorful furnishings bring playful energy to rustic redwood architecture. You'll sink into the gray sectional facing the wood-burning stove and smart TV as vaulted wood-planked ceilings soar and glass doors frame surrounding redwoods. A staircase leads to a loft sitting area above. The galley kitchen features white cabinets, stainless steel appliances with gas range and dishwasher, and glass pendants over the breakfast bar with navy stools for two. The dining table seats four. OUTDOOR LIVING Your creekside deck seats six with direct views of Austin Creek. Fire up the gas grill for dinner, or gather at the ground-level picnic table under mature trees. The wood-burning firepit sets the scene for s'mores and stargazing. A fenced yard lets dogs roam safely, and an outdoor shower rinses off creek adventures. SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS The master bedroom offers a queen near the full bath with walk-in shower. Upstairs, sloped wood-planked ceilings shelter a queen plus twin-over-twin bunk for kids, with a private balcony overlooking the trees. The living room pull-out sleeper adds flexibility. Step inside cathedral ceilings and a peaked tower of clerestory windows — colorful, modern-rustic, and creek-side under tall trees. Your creekside cottage sits in the heart of Cazadero's redwood canyon, where Austin Creek provides the soundtrack to deeply peaceful days. Stock up on essentials at Cazadero General Store just 2.7 miles away, or plan a pizza night at Raymond's Bakery. When you're ready to explore, Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve awaits 15 minutes south with its ancient grove trails. The Russian River town of Guerneville lies 15-17 minutes away with full dining options like Guerneville Taco Truck (3.7 mi) and boon eat + drink. Wine tasting at Porter-Bass Winery (5.4 mi) or historic Korbel Winery (5.6 mi) makes an easy afternoon outing. For coastal adventures, dramatic Goat Rock Beach (4.6 mi) and tide pools at Shell Beach (5.7 mi) are just 20-30 minutes west. The pristine waters of Austin Creek run year-round right past your deck — in summer, wade and swim in the gentle current while watching for river otters, great blue herons, and kingfishers that call this protected waterway home.
Cazadero is about an hour and 45 minutes from San Francisco via 101 and River Road — a scenic drive into a quiet redwood canyon. You'll find three parking spaces in the driveway (street parking not allowed). A car makes the Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast easy to explore, from redwood groves to coastal bluffs. Cell service gets patchy in the redwoods, so downloading offline maps before you arrive is worth it.
The cottage stays naturally cool under the redwood canopy — you'll find the forest shade and creek breezes keep temperatures comfortable without air conditioning. Your dogs (maximum 2) will love the fully fenced yard and nearby trails, though note that Austin Creek State Recreation Area doesn't allow dogs on trails. Take advantage of the outdoor shower after creek adventures! The primary renter must be 25 or older. While the property has internet, remember that Cazadero is chosen by guests specifically to disconnect — cell service is extremely limited throughout the area. The creek access mentioned is seasonal, with loose sand or rocks on the bank. Summer offers the best wading and swimming conditions, while winter brings dramatic rushing water best enjoyed from your deck. Internet provider details not specified in data.

Everything was perfect!
What a perfect getaway for us and our fur babies! We were nested in the woods with a secured fenced lot that allowed the dogs to sniff and explore freely while we enjoyed our coffee on the deck in the morning and wine by the firepit at night. We will definitely be back! The only thing that could have been better is if there was easier access to the creek. Part of the hike down was a bit trickle for us, but we still made it down once a day with the dogs and they loved it!
Everything about the property is lovely. The grounds are well kept with tall redwoods, apple trees, a fire pit, picnic table, etc. The deck is blissful with it's view of the creek and the breeze through the trees. Very zen like and we spent much our time there. The house is clean with everything you need to cook. It would be nice to stock it with coffee and condiments--we had to make a separate shopping trip fpr these. The bed is comfortable. Wifi worked fine. The creek is beautiful and fun, though the steep path down might not be suitable for everyone. It was our dog's favorite thing. The only downside was check-in and check-out, which was an hour off on both sides. 10am check out is outrageous. We have rented VRBO homes all over the world for more than 20 years and never encountered such a thing. Ridiculous, especially since your check in time isn't until 4pm. Fix this, and you have a perfect holiday spot.
Nice little cabin on the creek short walk to 2 different swimming holes. Dog friendly with a nice landscaped and fenced in yard. No poison oak in site which was a first for any trip to Cazadero. We will most likely try to stay here again when are back up that way. All of the popular streaming services were provided so we did not have to use our logins. The only real issue was the down bedding which was and allergy starter, but there were other blankets so no muss no fuss.
Price is what you pay, value is what you get. Not the cheapest rental I’ve been in, but everything worked, looked great, and the Vacasa staff bent over backwards to make sure everything was first rate!
This house was charming and the location was fantastic. We spent time at the creek when it wasn't raining. The yard was fenced and flat and our dog loved it. The redwoods were spectacular! We would have loved to use the outdoor fire pit but it was raining during our stay. We did use the indoor fireplace and it was cozy and warm.
