The view is wonderful.
The Thorogood Glen property is a great spot to enjoy Northern Michigan in a big way. The location gives you access to many little towns and only about 30 minutes from Traverse City. The property is great for large families, up to 12 people, to enjoy the area and lake. This rental is right on the lake shore, providing lake access to the Glen Lake water experience, which is second to none.
The location is very nice and the property is spacious allowing various lawn games. The house is dated and needs a little bit of a freshen up.
The house is in a great location with beautiful views. However, it is not maintained at all. The whole house smelled musty and moldy. We had all the windows open, but couldn't get rid of the smell. We stayed there 4 years ago, and it needed a lot of work then. At least the appliances worked back then. The microwave stopped working while we were there, and the dishwasher makes loud noises but doesn't clean the dishes. It is slightly ridiculous to have one refrigerator for 11 people. Some of the deck chairs are broken, and there is an umbrella stand, but no umbrella. The dead mouse in the laundry room was a fun surprise. As for our dealings with Vacasa, I was not impressed. If you are having people check in on Friday, you should have someone working in the office that day. We were given the wrong door code. We went to the office on Saturday, and there was a sign that someone would be in on Monday. Then on Wednesday evening, a storm came through. Sparks were flying out of the power lines in the back and front of the house. We have video. There had been a hanging power line in the back since we arrived; we have pictures. The fire department came; I am sure they have some interesting notes. The power went out, and smoke came out of the TV outlet. We texted Vacasa to inquire about a fire extinguisher, and the reply was that it was in our check-in information. Then a follow-up text saying oops, no it wasn't. Good thing the house wasn't burning down with 11 people in it. We were the only house in the area with no power and flying sparks; we have pictures. Obviously, the power lines were not properly maintained, which is a huge safety issue. That house should never have been rented in that condition. Someone from Vacasa called and offered us a condo in the Homestead, which we do appreciate. However, it was not on the lake, and all our food and belongings were in the dark house. My daughter had also rented a paddleboard that she couldn't use at the condo. Vacasa might want to see if the power line issue has been resolved before another family is endangered.
The breeze from the lake was wonderful. We enjoyed family time on the lake but be careful if you have small children, 2 of our 5 got bad cases of swimmer’s itch. If you know ahead of time you can take precautions to avoid the problem. Home is dated and could use some updates.
