The Anchor House

The anchor house has a perfect location You can take a bike to the beach in five minutes or Publix without having to go back on the overseas highway. You can also access a drugstore and a gym without getting back on the highway. We have stayed in other places on the keys and lost an hour stuck in overseas highway traffic trying to get to the grocery store and home The house is in an ideal location with the calm of a channel, but the ocean straight ahead for beautiful views all the time For those not experienced in visiting Florida check on the Marathon tides website to make sure you’re close to high tide if you go out in a kayak or paddleboard and avoid sitting on the balcony at dusk ordawn, if there’s no wind because of no seeums will get you before you know it

We loved everything about this home. Home was well furnished and had all the amenities we needed. Plenty of seating around pool area and many amenities (refrigerator, microwave, pool table) located on the lower level as well as in the house. Beautiful dock and launch (no boat, hence we didn’t use) but there if you needed it. Hosts were super responsive. House located close to most of the attractions that Marathon has to offer as well as close proximity to grocery stores, shopping, bar and restaurants. Truly a 20 minute walk to beautiful Sombrero Beach where we were able to see a turtle release from the Turtle Hospital. Key West Transit bus stop literally at the corner of the street. Trip to Key West via bus: $1. (Senior pricing). Pool was heated as promised. My only caution is: if you’re as susceptible to insect bites as I am, be prepared for noseeums and mosquitoes. Not a reflection on the property, just a fact of the Keys that I was completely oblivious about!

We had a great stay at this home. I agree with other reviewers that it could definitely use some work. We still thoroughly enjoyed our trip. The location is perfect, it was close to the grocery store and was less than 5 minutes from the dock to open ocean on the boat. The canal is shallow but handles our 25 ft boat with no problems. Just be sure to drive slow and stay in the channel. We also had a manatee visit our dock!! The first night it was late but we wanted to cook something and found there was no propane. No big deal, I contacted the host and didn’t expect anything but within 30 minutes they came by and delivered 2 new tanks. We are hoping to plan another trip and would absolutely stay at this home again.
