Overview
A peaceful Sea Ranch escape awaits—settle into a vintage Binker Barn–style home wrapped in quiet, natural detail. An enclosed garden of native trees and flowers, dotted with serene statues, gives the outdoor space a calm, almost meditative feel. The ocean appears as a distant view from the home—enough sky and horizon to anchor the coast—while you unwind in the private hot tub (without promising surf at your doorstep). Inside, thoughtful updates sit comfortably alongside the home’s classic character; highlights include an ultra-modern primary bathroom with a spa-style shower (body sprayers and a rain showerhead). The kitchen is fully equipped for everyday cooking (not a showpiece “chef’s kitchen”). In the living areas, a 49-inch smart TV and comfortable sofas make it easy to stream shows and movies, while a central wood-burning fireplace and several cozy sitting areas are arranged to catch the home’s views. SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS Spread out across 3 bedrooms -- the master features a king bed for a truly restful night. Additional sleeping includes 1 queen bed, 1 double bed, 1 twin bed, 1 bunk bed. Altogether, the home comfortably sleeps 7. Stretching along ten miles of the Sonoma Coast, The Sea Ranch offers a rare blend of coastal wilderness and thoughtfully designed homes. Nearby highlights include community heated pool and hot tub (South) (2-minute drive), Pebble Beach access trail (3-minute drive), Black Point headland trails (3-minute drive). The community features miles of bluff-top and forest trails, tidepools, two heated community pools, a fitness center, tennis courts, and The Sea Ranch Lodge with its restaurant, lounge and café. Gualala is a quick 10-minute drive south for groceries, dining, and fuel. For a scenic outing, Jenner and Bodega Bay are further down Highway 1.
Designed by famed architect William Turnbull, this exposed timber frame 'Binker Barn' offers a private oasis nestled on a one-acre lot just east of Highway 1 that features scenic ocean views and lush forest surroundings on three sides. Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport (STS) in Santa Rosa is the nearest airport, about 1.5 hours east. A car is essential for exploring the area.
Wildlife (deer, foxes, rabbits, birds) visit the property frequently. Additional perks include free WiFi and a private washer/dryer. Sea Ranch has three recreation centers with heated pools, saunas, and tennis courts. Access passes are provided with your stay -- check availability upon arrival as these shared amenities can be popular during peak times. Exterior lighting is minimal by design to preserve the stunning dark sky -- bring a flashlight for evening walks and enjoy some of the best stargazing on the California coast. Whale watching season runs from December through April -- grab the binoculars and watch for gray whale spouts from your window. Spring (April-June) brings a wildflower show across the coastal meadows -- lupine, poppies, and iris paint the landscape. Summer (June-September) brings the warmest days and longest light. Morning fog is common along the coast -- it usually burns off by midday.

Overall super good! Would recommend downloading the map as there is bad service when you are approaching the house and guest pass pickup location
The house was charming with nice views, great hot tub, and very interesting home architecture. We were pleasantly surprised after some of the reviews, and although some improvements could be made such as omitting strong air fresheners and updating upstairs mattresses, we loved the place for a large family for 4 days. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils, pans, bowls and lots of new dishes and glassware, new appliances, and plenty of towels. Mini-splits heat pumps and standing heaters heated the un-insulated house well (typical of Sea Ranch). The rustic vibe was really nice- it is not a fancy hotel or modern home - it is Sea Ranch as we had hoped.
This property is funky - has some good things (location good and nice view from the deck) but our stay was overshadowed by the fact that there were alot of non-functional items at the house. TV didn't work, no instructions for the property (so no clue how to turn up hot tub - finally a maintenence guy came and even he didn't know), lots of deferred maintenence, dirty dishes and cooking pots/sheets, dirty deck, no light to access the home as you walk down from driveway, no power in master bedroom. So - you can imagine - we made the best of it as Sea Ranch is so lovely and we enjoyed the property as best we could for the location but would not stay here again. If they'd put a little investment into the property it could be really great.
Overall condition of property was run-down and poorly maintained. Broken cupboards, missing paint, squeaky floors, hot tub with no jets/bubbles where we discovered a dead frog. Also the property had not been cleaned recently; dusty surfaces, not vacuumed, dead bugs everywhere, cobwebs, animal excrement on back deck as well as cigarette butts and empty beer bottle. Very dirty windows made it difficult to use binoculars or to see outside. Termite poop all over master bedroom dresser covering towels, caused by the termites in the ceiling. Loud popping noises from wood beams as house settled at night, all night. When I retrieved a spare blanket from the closet (because there is no central heating), I was upset to discover a live centipede hiding within. Beautiful location with awesome views but I suggest avoiding the place if you're sensitive to 'rustic conditions' or musty and moldy smells.
