Overview

Open the curtains to the Pacific -- this Sea Ranch home offers ocean views from the living room. Soak in the hot tub as the sun dips below the Pacific. Step outside to a deck overlooking the ocean. Room for 4 in this 1-bedroom home. The Sea Ranch Lodge is a short drive away. Miles of bluff-top trails and hidden beaches are yours to explore. On still nights the stars are overwhelming -- no city light for miles in any direction.

This is one of Sea Ranch’s fifteen historic “walk-in” vacation cabins—an award-winning, Obie Bowman–designed retreat where redwood-clad walls, generous skylights, and a second-story deck among the trees put the landscape at the center of the stay. The cabin was sited to minimize impact on the land: compact footprint, nearly 90% of the parcel left as natural preserve, and a slower arrival rhythm—parking is at the shared Walk-In Cabin lot, with a short walk in along foot trails (plus limited loading access as noted in your arrival details). Living area Come in and let your eyes adjust to warm wood, shifting light, and big coastal sky. The living space is made for unhurried evenings: stream a show on the 50-inch TV (guest Netflix access and DVD—with a rental shop in Gualala if you want a throwback movie night), or warm up by the wood stove while the coast weather does its thing outside. Kitchen & dining The kitchen is set up for real vacation cooking, with seating for your group so meals stay relaxed and unscheduled—morning coffee, long dinners, and easy snacks between hikes. Outdoor living Step out to deck and balcony living: from up here, catch a bird’s-eye whitewater view of the Pacific, then pivot into the redwood canopy just beyond the railing. It’s an ideal perch for sunset light and, in season, migrating gray whales from the bluff perspective. When you’re ready to unwind, slip into the private hot tub; on grill nights, fire up the gas grill and let the ocean breeze and forest quiet be the backdrop. Sleeping arrangements Upstairs, the primary bedroom invites you to open the skylights for stars and the Milky Way—or close them and sleep in with the room still bright and airy by day. Downstairs, additional sleeping includes two twin beds and one bunk bed. Altogether, the home comfortably sleeps four guests. The Sea Ranch is a one-of-a-kind coastal community on the Sonoma Coast, where miles of trails wind through meadows, forests, and along ocean bluffs. Nearby highlights include The Sea Ranch Lodge restaurant, lounge and café (a short 3-minute walk), Shell Beach tidepools (6-minute walk), Black Point headland trails (2-minute drive). Between the coastal trails, tidepools, heated pools, and The Sea Ranch Lodge's restaurant, you could fill a week without leaving the community. Gualala is a quick 10-minute drive south for groceries, dining, and fuel. For a scenic outing, Jenner and Bodega Bay are further down Highway 1.

The drive from San Francisco is approximately 2.5 hours via Highway 101 to Highway 1. Fly into Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport (STS) in Santa Rosa, about 1.5 hours east, and rent a car. The Highway 1 drive along the coast is spectacular and worth building into your travel day.

Walk-in cabin & parking This home is part of Sea Ranch’s historic walk-in cabin cluster. You may pull up in front for loading and unloading only; overnight parking is at the Walk-In Cabin lot, a short walk from the house via foot trails (and limited loading access as described in your arrival guide). Connectivity Cell service and Wi‑Fi can be inconsistent here. If you need to be reachable for work or emergencies, plan ahead—we recommend downloading directions and arrival details before you arrive. Sea Ranch community rules Drones are not allowed anywhere in Sea Ranch. RVs and camper vans are not permitted to park on Sea Ranch property. Stairs, balcony & kids Because of the balcony, interior stairs, and wooded surroundings, this home is not recommended for children under eight. Evening light & dark skies Exterior lighting is minimal by design to protect the night sky. Bring a flashlight for evening walks—you’ll be rewarded with some of the best stargazing on the California coast. Seasonal rhythm December–April is prime gray whale season; the bluff trails nearby are a great vantage point. April–June often brings wildflower color along the coastal bluffs. In summer, expect long days—and classic Sonoma Coast morning fog that often burns off by midday.

Amazing location in the Redwoods and views of the ocean

Kori T2025-09-25

It may have been waking up to a starlit night. It could have been the serenity of each day. It may even have been the sparkling notes that covered the surface of the ocean from the living room view. I can’t wait to return. This cabin stay was initially attempted in 2019, and after much ado, it finally happened. I could stay there and be happy for any amount of time, yet longer would have been the preference. It was exactly what the senses needed after a long meditative experience in the wilderness.

We had a great time there. My wife and I enjoyed the hot tub and the quietness of the area!

Shelley W2025-07-17

Gorgeous view, very cool hike-in location. The heat didn't work and the couches were rough to sit on, though -- in general, disappointing if you paid what we paid, but if you get a steal, it's a rustic, cool experience.

Caitlin M2025-04-26

This was a great spot. It was the right balance of rustic and out of the way, but still has Wi-Fi, a clean shower and workable kitchen. The minimalist design made the woods and ocean a more prominent feature. Hot tub was a nice bonus.
