We enjoyed our stay with another family, plenty of space for everyone and a good location near Sugarbowl, Donner Lake, and hiking in Tahoe Donner. Z's market nearby was very handy. We would stay again.
This area is great. The snow was beautiful and the house has a great location. Vacasa was very accommodating to us.
We had a nice stay with our dog. The house was clean and comfortable and we appreciated using the grill to cook. Kitchen was well stocked with cooking implements. We also appreciated the dishwasher detergent and washing machine detergent left for guests.
First the Good. The house is perfectly located in Tahoe Donner. Z's Market is in walking distance and the Lodge Restaurant is also. Add in the ease to get to the ski mountain with the sledding park right there and it was shaping up to be a perfect day. The house: The house may be a bit dated, but it is on par with the area for a rental. The house was spacious, the living room was comfortable and there was plenty of space to spread out. The garage is big that it even fit my near full size pick up in side. The amenities in the house were sufficient. The BAD: Now, we are not rookies to the Sierras during the winter. We are prepared and expect to have to shovel in between contracted snow removal. That is just par for the course. When we arrived on a Thursday night at the tail end of a good storm we were met with a 4.5 foot berm from the plow. The driveway had a few feet on it also. It was obvious that no snow removal had occurred during the storm. Being the listing stated that Elemental was the snow removal service I saw them on the street and figured they would do an initial clearing. Well, they didn't. They skipped over this house and went on their way. I reached out to guest services to inquire if there was snow removal and they had no info. Well, maybe they will come over night, but we need to get into the driveway as you aren't allowed to be on the street at night. So we started shoveling. 3 of us shoved for 2 hours. This included my mother in law in her seventies. Eventually after the two hours we were able to get my truck into the driveway and into the garage. Ok, we thought. That stinks BUT someone must be coming over night to clear it out. We woke up on the Friday and there was another foot or so of snow and again another 4 foot berm. Darn that plow, but the sad thing was there was not a bit of snow removal over night like expected. Elemental again came and went. So out I went in the morning to shovel for another few hours so we could get out and get to the mountain. Eventually I got a call from a local person that was surprised. He said that didn't seem right and he would look into it. Well, he did stop by the house and did shovel a bit of the walkway, but that didn't help the driveway much. Friday Afternoon (now 24 hours after arrival) we head back to the house and still no snow removal. The plow did its thing again, but at least this time it wasn't as bad. So about 20 minutes later I was able to get into the driveway. No snow removal on Saturday. On Sunday days after the storm and as we were preparing to leave. A snow removal company showed up. So IF you rent this house in the winter, make sure you ensure that they have in fact contracted with a snow removal service. It is sad, because it would have been a perfect trip if they actually had a snow removal service.
Great location with a lovely market within walking distance
The cabin was spotless, well-organized, and felt very private. The clear and easy-to-understand instructions for using the amenities made our stay even more enjoyable. We planned a birthday celebration during our visit, and it was fantastic! Having access to a fridge and a fully equipped kitchen allowed us to cook a wonderful meal. I would absolutely recommend this place to all my friends and family!
