I loved everything about the cabin except for two things. 1st Appliances had some dust built up same with around the staircase. 2nd the first few steps of the stairs were very narrow on one side, we had to really watch our steps going up or down the stairs. Other than that I loved waking up and seeing the river from the living room window (my favorite part of the stay), they had everything we needed and extra. I might have to book it again later on when it's not so cold and rainy out so I could enjoy the outer part of the cabin.
This is a quaint and cozy cabin where we spent a couple of days venturing out for walks, reading and watching the screen. Do not expect perfection! You are staying in a cabin and that is fine with me. The stairs to the upstairs bed are a bit tricky (especially coming down!) but you just need to pay attention.
Great little cabin in the forest and on a charming creek. So quiet and relaxing. People live next door but hey were quiet and we never really saw them.
We quit our screens and devices and just enjoyed the sounds of the river, went hiking during the day at Old Salmon River Trail, and then at the harder Hunchback Trail. Took hot baths in the evening, the water has tons of minerals in it so it was great for our skin, but it does smell like minerals so be prepared for that (we had nice scented bubble bath soap so it didn't matter.) Then we enjoyed the propane fire pit on the back porch, had champagne, and looked at the stars, or read quietly in the living room to the sound of the river. The bed upstairs was crisp, clean, and cozy. It was the perfect place to get away from it all, and we enjoyed knowing that we were contributing to the historical trust that owns the cabin. We will definitely be back. Also, the curry place nearby, Naan Curry, was exceptional. I'm very picky about my Indian food and this was spicy, authentic, great portions, and great atmosphere. We wanted to try the bakery nearby but it is closed on Mondays. The only nearby activities are really hiking, but if your goal is to get away from it all, the hikes are stunning and perfect, and there's plenty of grocery places nearby and great spots to eat and drink.
We loved the rustic feel of the cabin. It might actually appear a bit smaller in person than photos, however, we had plenty of room even with another couple that stayed with my husband and I for one night (note that the little bathroom is right off the kitchen and therefore might be best to share this cabin with people you know well-wink!). When sitting by the water that is a very short walk down a path from the cabin, we did see the neighbor working in her yard right near us (about 30' away). The spot is really magical and beautiful, however, not completely private. We continued with our private activities and felt no obligation to interact (as soon as she left, we didn't see anyone else). We could smell the metallic/metal odor in the water but it wasn't at all strong, and we brought our own drinking water in large containers. The grill was rusted and unusable, however, we didn't plan to use it anyway. Sleeping in the upstairs loft felt a bit like being in a treehouse, and was wonderful. Bring a portable urinal if going downstairs at night might be an issue. We trained ourselves right away to walk slowly up and down the stairs while holding the railing and didn't have any issues. The second little bedroom downstairs is adorable and as small as it appears in the photos. The shower was fine. All in all, this gem of a cabin is on our 'favorites' list now!
Felt like an old time movie set. Very cool 1930's feel. Go in planning for a fun stay in the old days, except here the beds were comfortable and there was good hot water. Sandy River was just down a short path and was so refreshing after a hot day hiking.
