Down By The Bay #C202 is described as a great value and a charming, welcoming place for a relaxing getaway. Bring binoculars for the view! I didn't use them but there is a pool and two hottubs. I just had too much fun at The Bay Haven and spending time with my Newport friends. Eat at Szabos and/or Clearwater.
I would give this unit a zero star review if I could. The number of sanitation and maintenance issues we encountered made our stay uncomfortable, unsanitary, and absolutely not worth the price. When we arrived, we immediately noticed dirty dishes and glasses—some even left unwashed inside the dishwasher. We had to clean dishes ourselves just to use them. The bedding was also unacceptable: extra sheets were dirty and stained, the extra comforter had a cigarette burn hole, and the bed sheets had hair on them. Clean bedding is a basic expectation, and it clearly wasn’t provided. The furniture was filthy, dusty, stained, and extremely worn. The couch and chairs felt unhygienic to even sit on. When we requested extra towels for our family of four (for swimming and showering), both Vacasa and the onsite front desk kept redirecting us back and forth, ultimately denying the request entirely—even though the property advertises a pool and accommodates multiple guests. Many of the wall outlets were so worn out they wouldn’t even hold a plug, which is both inconvenient and unsafe. The carpet was extremely dirty and triggered allergy symptoms, suggesting pets had been inside the unit despite it being listed as non-pet-friendly. Combined with heavy dust and poor air quality, we dealt with sinus issues the entire stay. The kitchen drawers were filled with crumbs and spills, as though they hadn’t been cleaned in years. The fan above the stove didn’t work properly and blew air outward. The burners smoked from how dirty they were. Even the kitchen towels had dried food on them. We also found hair in the bathroom drawers. To make matters worse, there were repulsive stains splattered across the bedroom walls and closet doors—an obvious sign of neglect and lack of proper cleaning or inspection. Overall, this property is nowhere near the quality or cleanliness advertised. It felt deceptive, unsanitary, and poorly maintained from top to bottom. Not only in cleanliness but with basic maintenance. This home is not maintained at all, blinds were broken, baseboards were in terrible shape with paint peeling all over, the kitchen faucet was not working correctly, the stovetop smoked upon usage, the bathroom sink had no drain plug, the bed mattress is completely and totally worn out and felt like sleeping on springs, burnt out light bulbs in the kitchen. I cannot recommend this rental in its current state. Renters deserve better—and certainly better than what we experienced here. I’ve requested a full refund and Vacasa will not comply. Be forewarned and do not stay here.
Good location.
I stayed in a Vacasa rental once before and swore never again because it was such a bad experience. At least that home was clean though. This was a last minute trip, there wasn't much available so I decided to give vacasa another try. Wrong choice, It was absolutely gross. Everything in the apartment looked like the cheapest second hand stuff they could find. Everything was stained, chipped and broken from the carpet to the towels. Icing on the cake was horrible customer service. The first night the apartment was really hot. After opening the doors and searching for a thermostat I reached out to customer service. They told me that someone from the local team would be in contact. That never happened. When I reached out again they were dismissive and we knew we were on our own. By experimenting with the thermostat that was not labeled we finally got the heater off. Never again will I rent a Vacasa property.
We as a family loved the place, it's family friendly and has an option of crabbing. Very pleasant experience we had.
