Overview

Originally built in 1892 (the very first home in Gearhart), this Gearhart vacation rental has been lovingly maintained and makes a wonderfully unique vacation getaway. Perched on a full acre of grassy meadow ringed by old-growth pines, the home sits just three blocks from the beautiful sandy beach and only four from the shops and cafes of charming Gearhart. The Latourette House has 2,500 square feet of unique living space. The sun-drenched living room has ample windows, and is the ideal spot to settle in with a good book for a quiet afternoon, or break out one of the provided board games for a little healthy competition. There is even a day bed that can be used at night by a guest. At mealtimes, you'll find the kitchen is equipped with all the modern conveniences of home, including a dishwasher, oven with stovetop, refrigerator, microwave, and coffeemaker. Adjacent to the kitchen, the formal dining room with antique light fixtures and a gorgeous hutch awaits your home-cooked breakfasts and leisurely dinners. A door from the kitchen leads out to the patio, with a charcoal grill for summer barbecues. Outdoor seating nooks are scattered across the wraparound deck and throughout the grassy yard, and if you watch closely, you might spot a deer or elk wandering past! With four bedrooms, three full baths, and a unique summer sleeping porch with netting instead of glass windows, this home has plenty of room for eight guests. The largest bedroom offers a queen bed and a cable TV with DVD player, along with a private door leading out to the wrap-around deck. The second bedroom has a double bed, a third room has a twin bed, and the fourth bedroom offers two twins with another TV set. There are three full bathrooms, one with a beautiful soaking tub and two with walk-in showers. The upstairs summer sleeping porch, enclosed by netting rather than glass windows, is a one-of-a-kind spot that our younger guests will love! Over the years, it has become a makeshift art gallery or family journal with names and memories from the past of when the owners were kids and growing up in the home. You are welcome to view the make-shift journal, but please do not add anything to it. Please note that while the beds are comfy and the linens warm, the space does not have heat—it is wonderful for summertime sleeping in the fresh air, but not suitable for colder weather. The home even offers wireless Internet access and a washer/dryer, so it's wonderful for a working getaway or long-term stay. Dogs are welcome with an additional nightly fee, and please inquire for special arrangements to accommodate a wedding or large reunion! This one-of-a-kind Northern Oregon Coast vacation home has welcomed families to beautiful Gearhart for decades! Will yours be next?

This lovely and historic home in Gearhart is amazing! Super clean and very unique. I really loved the location, the feel of the home, and the views out every window. It was like being almost alone but close to town. Very stocked kitchen, super clean bathrooms, comfortable beds. Also, there was a painting hanging up in one of the bedrooms that was in my home when I was growing up - a painting that I just adore. I loved this house!

What a charming and delightful old house! The big sun room was such a wonderful gathering place, and the trees and shrubs all around made a delightful view even when it was raining. There are some creaky floors and sound travels in such an old home, but we had a great time!

I like historic houses!

The wooded property, you felt like you were in the woods at the coast, but it’s only an 11 minute walk. The path to the beach is scenic and a bench midway. Perfect for changing into shoes and brushing off the now dry sand. We had 6 yo to 81 yo with a cane who did the walk. The home has kept all the charm but modernized in the right places. The kitchen has all stainless steel appliances made for a large family (we were 6-9ppl over our week there). The dining table could seat up to 11 with the various chairs. So much seating and space in the living/family room. We set up a 6’ folding table for a hard puzzle for the entire stay and people could still move around. We also spent a lot of time eating and gathering outdoors. Either in front of the house or at the picnic table and chairs around the fire pit to the side. They set it up well. It’s enclosed by these fragrant floral shrubs that keep you cool and keep off the evening mist. NOTE: There are two TVs, but they are small. One is 17” and the other 27” maybe? Both upstairs in bedrooms. It was actually perfect for us since the whole point is to get away from screen time, but great for some snuggle and downtime. WiFi is good. Bathrooms are vintage but updated enough. Washer and dryer rocked! And there’s a sandbox! If you want a vacation out of a Wes Anderson movie (all the quirky charm and still comfortable, this is the place. Other notes: The beds seemed sketch, but were totally stable and comfortable. I slept better than my own bed! They have this bunk room, that’s a screened in addition to the house with siding on the interior wall. 4 beds. And the best “signature book” all over the walls and ceiling. Sharpie and chalk pending surface; bring both! They have quite a few games (Scrabble for sure) and puzzles, but we brought our own. They give you at least two days of coffee, dishwasher soap, laundry soap, liquid soap and sponge to help with shopping. SO well appointed! Bday candles, foil, Saran Wrap, SO MANY plates and utensils! They left a hand picked wildflower nose hat in a jelly jar on the vintage kitchen table❤️ IF YOU ARE NOT FROM THE PNW: It’s 10 minutes door to door to the Carousel Mall in Seaside. Downtown Gearhart is super charming spend an hour two there a day. Cannon Beach is probably 20ish minutes away.
