What our guests are saying...
Ruby Peak Haven is a spacious and inviting log cabin that is especially well suited for families and groups, with plenty of room to gather, relax, dine, and sleep comfortably. The home is described as cozy, comfortable, clean, bright, tastefully decorated, and well appointed, with restful beds, a warm fireplace area, and a peaceful cabin atmosphere. Its quiet and private setting among the trees creates a beautiful retreat near Wallowa Lake, Joseph, the state park, trails, coffee, and local adventures, with guests enjoying walks, wildlife sightings, and time on the large decks and porch. The kitchen is repeatedly praised as very well stocked and thoughtfully supplied for cooking and group meals, and guests also appreciated the robes, fans, folding table and chairs, games, towels, and generous household supplies. Wifi worked well for guests, and the property offered a comfortable place to unwind in every season. Overall, Ruby Peak Haven is seen as a beautiful, functional, and memorable getaway that guests would gladly recommend and return to.
Overview
THINGS TO KNOW
- Seasonal bbqs are available from Memorial Day thru Labor Day. BBQs are propane and tanks are provided. We strongly encourage you to review your tank level in the morning and if a replacement is needed please reach out to your local contact for a tank replacement.
- Limited WiFi is available, as this is a rural area.
- The common space sofa bed provides an extra sleeping space.
- Even in the summer months, it is helpful to get to the house using 4x4 or LOW in an automatic transmission. It helps to not tear up the roads.
- This home is available year-round, but a 4x4 is required (and chains are optional and optimal) for access in the winter months.
- Occupancy and parking can not be exceeded.
- No fires or firepits are ever allowed, due to the heavy timbered area and county restrictions but the propane fireplace is allowed.
- Winter Rentals: We always recommend 4x4, chains or studded tires to get to our winter open houses. Some renters have better traction tires and can access the homes without them but we don't recommend it. Also, weather changes rapidly in our mountain location. We always suggest preparing for the worst. Also, many Les Schwab Tire Centers have the ability to purchase tire chains, and if you don't use them, will take them on return.

Nothing. Don’t waste your time or money with this place. From the private comments. I reached out to VRBO to resolve a significant safety issue found on the last afternoon of the stay. I found an ungrounded extension cord leading to a heated mat outside the main door. The mat wasn’t working properly and ice was building up on the entryway making the deck a sheet of ice. Since this was the last afternoon of the stay and I already contacted the new site manager who had been working for two days in the new position, I understood that the resolution to the matter would not be addressed soon. I resolved the immediate hazard by unplugging the mat. In short, we had been walking over an ungrounded, seemingly non-functioning electrical heated mat with ice on it for the past two days. I spoke with the new manager the following morning upon checkout telling him of the safety concern and letting him know of other shortcomings with the property. We are on vacation - not expecting to spend all our time addressing every shortcoming with the property - like no functional landline, a horrible grease odor in the kitchen, a squealing dryer, missing and burnt out bulbs, broken luggage racks, a non-functional CO detector, dirty dishes and cookware, filthy cabinets, broken AV equipment, and the like. As most are probably concerned, there is an expectation that these matters are already working prior to arrival on vacation. But the ungrounded electrical non-functional heating mat seems to be a significant safety concern that would be of interest to be addressed. I worked with VRBO and their complaint department for the past 2 weeks. I was assured we would receive a response within 48 hours of initially filing the concerns with the property. I am left with little recourse than that of public shaming to get a refund. I am willing to remove this review if a full and complete refund is provided as initially requested. Thank you for your time. I look forward to your response.
Loved feeling tucked away and how cozy the couches next to the fireplace were. We came during winter and enjoyed the quiet
Wonderful house with wonderful amenities. Feels secluded this time of year. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to visit Wallowa County.
The check in time at 4:00 PM and check out time at 10:00PM really cuts your time short. We feel like we paid for 2 days but only got 1 day and 1 late evening.
secluded and fun place. i have stayed here for years
I want to start by saying I’m not someone who usually leaves reviews, especially negative ones. We truly loved the area, and the house itself is beautiful — even nicer than the photos. The location couldn’t be better. However, our stay was overshadowed by a serious cleanliness issue and the complete lack of response when we reported it. Upon arrival, we found what appeared to be semen and hair on one of the beds. This was discovered just as our child was about to get into that bed for the night. It was shocking and deeply concerning. We reached out immediately for assistance, but no one ever responded or followed up. That lack of basic care and accountability is what makes this experience so disappointing. We were left to handle it ourselves, and there were only two extra sets of sheets available, which wasn’t enough to change all of the beds. We ended up having to sleep in the home knowing at least one bed had not been properly cleaned, which is unacceptable. We also tried to wash the bedding ourselves, but the dryer made such a loud screeching noise that we couldn’t use it while the kids were asleep. If the cleanliness issue had been taken seriously and addressed when we reached out, this could have been a 4 or 5 star stay. The property and location are wonderful, but the complete lack of response to a situation like this completely changed the experience. Also, bring a can opener if you plan to cook — there wasn’t one provided!
