Overview

Immerse yourself in history and comfort at this gorgeous 1940s-era, riverfront Welches vacation rental which boasts a private hot tub and dog-friendly amenities for family or friends. Near ski resorts and hiking trails, and right on the edge of the Mt. Hood National Forest, you'll spend your time here relaxing on the deck, gathering around the massive floor-to-ceiling, rock-faced fireplace, and breathing in the fresh mountain air. The secluded home is located on the banks of the Salmon River. Please note: the river can be very fast-moving, so please be careful when playing nearby. The cabin is less than two miles from the city, which boasts three golf courses and four nearby ski resorts! The inside of this stylish Welches bungalow will remind you of a mountain lodge - with its tall ceilings, wood paneling and beams, gorgeous hardwood floors, and comfortable furniture. While the snow falls down outside, put another log on the fire, and settle back on the sofa right under the antler chandelier for an evening of chatting, reading, or watching cable TV. There's WiFi and DVD player. Deck access is right through either set of the living room's French doors. Out here, you'll find a hot tub, a gas grill, and a beautiful view of the Salmon River. The water is so close, you can even dip your toes in right from the edge of the property. This main level is spacious and open, with a china hutch, dining table, and small work area right by a black iron spiral staircase. The country-style full kitchen has an eat-in breakfast counter, stovetop/range, refrigerator, dishwasher, and microwave. Smaller gadgets include a coffee grinder and toaster, so quick breakfasts before a hike are easy to prepare. Right near the work station is a plaid-themed full bathroom with a pedestal sink and a walk-in shower. And on this level, you'll also find the first bedroom with a queen bed, brass bed frame, and a rustic, mountain cabin decor. This room also has a stacked washer and dryer, so there's no need to overpack when you stay here. Up the spiral staircase, are the two additional bedrooms - one with a queen and a twin bed, as well as another room with two twin beds. And in the upstairs bathroom, you'll have a beautiful clawfoot tub for soaking - there's even a large skylight in the slanted ceiling for a tree-lined view. Up to two dogs (100 pounds or less) are also welcome with an additional fee. This Welches vacation cabin is close to hiking and biking trails, river access, golfing at The Resort at the Mountains, and numerous restaurants for those evenings that you don't feel like cooking. Right along the Mt. Hood Scenic Byway there's the highly-rated Rendezvous Grill for specials like Wine Down Wednesdays, El Burro Locco for wild boar tacos, and the ZigZag Inn - be sure to try a pizza there! In winter, you're only 13 miles from Mt. Hood Skibowl, 19 miles from Timberline Lodge, and 22 miles from Mt. Hood Meadows, so you'll want to be sure to bring your skis and snowboards! And even closer to your mountain getaway, you can enjoy cross-country skiing, snowboarding, and even snowmobiling in the Mt. Hood National Forest. This Papa Bear Cabin in Welches is the quintessential Mt. Hood vacation rental! Year-round, you'll enjoy classic mountain lodge ambiance, your own private hot tub with forest views, and a great location near all the area's best attractions. You must be 21 years or older to rent this property.

Once again, a cozy and relaxing cabin experience. The character of the former owner, "Papa Bear", is evident in the contents of the bookshelves, choice of art, movie selection, etc. Beds are comfy and appliances work well. The river views are beautiful, and the hot tub is always nice.

This was my second time coming to this cabin, unfortunately a little bit of a rocky stay at the end, we had some sort of plumbing issue and jacuzzi issue. I will give thanks to getting help from the local rep and getting us situated so quickly. This place is nice, it just may need some small updates, but all in all i still like the cabin

We rented the Papa Bear cabin in late October 2025. The good: the cabin is on the river, very nice. Hot tub hot and clean upon arrival. Parking in front of garage for 2 cars. Close neighbors but nice and they were quiet. Dogs in neighborhood. Master bedroom on first floor comfortable. Bathroom has wonderful water pressure and hot water. Kitchen well stocked with small dishwasher. Beautiful fireplace. Two tables in kitchen and dining rooms. Quiet and relaxing. The bad: one leather loveseat and one leather chair. No rugs on floors. Cold and uncomfortable for larger parties. Two oven burners did not work. No place in bathroom to put stuff. Back door sticks. No kindling or fire starter provided - you have to chop your own wood from woodshed and bring paper. TV set up very high towards ceiling. Tons of debris on roof and windows. Deck needs refinishing badly. The spiral staircase to the second floor is not conducive to senior citizens, small children or pets. The final point: Although we had a very nice time, I expected more for the nightly price of this cabin. We probably won't rent again unless improvements made.

Beautiful river view, nice big hot tub, plenty of charm. Small but functional kitchen. It seems like they recently added a fence to improve the privacy factor. Not a ton of kid friendly stuff, but ours loved their cozy upstairs bedroom, and they had a great time. We’d book it again!
