Overview

Hawks Beard Home

At the western edge of Black Butte Ranch is a getaway whose comfortable charm and renewed amenities blend perfectly with the spectacular surroundings. It’s a well-appointed but cozy retreat, and hot tub-equipped, making for a relaxing headquarters for the endless outdoor possibilities - biking, hiking, skiing, fishing, golf and tennis, all in one of the most scenic spots in the American West. The knotty pine paneling, expansive picture windows, and 14-foot living-room ceiling fit the mountain motif, as does a classic, lava-rock fireplace that seems straight out of a ski lodge. The updated kitchen includes honey-hued alder cabinetry, a combination convection/microwave oven, and a gorgeous refinish of a pine picnic-style table. A TV, DVD player, Bluetooth sound box, and WiFi availability are part of the living room, which adjoins a mud room designed to accommodate extensive ski equipment or double as staging area for the hot tub outside. The lower floor also houses the home’s a laundry room. Upstairs, you’ll find an oversize room featuring a set of bunk beds, a TV, and an accompanying half-bath; and a loft with a futon. The loft has a table and another TV/DVD setup, and it makes for a great kids' gaming area. Also on the upper level is the largest bathroom. Go outside the mud room downstairs and step onto a 1,300-square-foot deck, one of the largest at Black Butte. It’s easily big enough for entertaining, or it can be merely an inviting spot to relax on a variety of outdoor furniture. The home is a great jumping-off point for the array of outdoor pursuits in Central Oregon. On-site are two memorable golf courses. Big Meadow, named by GolfWeek Magazine in 2013 as one of 'The Best Courses You Can Play' in Oregon, is a picturesque layout with mountain vistas, including the iconic view of the volcanic peak Three-Fingered Jack from the 14th tee. Glaze Meadow is a tighter track, but with similarly appealing panoramas, including the North Sister and Mount Washington. A maze of bike paths crisscross Black Butte. There are four outdoor swimming pools, an indoor pool, a sauna, and a workout facility. The Ranch has four dining options, a couple of which overlook Phalarope Lake, a haven for kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, and fly-fishing. Horseback riding is another possibility, through stables on-site. Beyond the Ranch, but not far beyond, is an outdoor lover’s paradise. Hoodoo Ski Area is 14 miles west, or to the east, you can venture outside Bend to one of the West’s best ski destinations, Mt. Bachelor. Fishing, hiking, camping, and other water sports options abound. The Western-themed town of Sisters is only eight miles east, and bustling Bend is just 45 minutes away. Things to Know Motorcycles are not permitted on the ranch. Four cars can fit in the driveway parked behind one another. There is no parking in the garage. Deschutes County Tax Certificate #77

Lots of rooms, comfortable and everything we needed.

Nancy W2026-01-05

House met our needs for a family get-away including dogs. There were 5 adults and two small children and the house layout accommodated us well. Plenty of space so we all had privacy when needed. Nice, clean hot tub which we used a lot. Kitchen is well stocked however the house is generally somewhat outdated (furniture, etc). Garage is not usable for parking but it worked well for the dogs.

I love Black Butte Ranch and have been going there for over 45 years. I know most of the homes are getting old but honestly for the price, This home is very dated and not clean. Carpet is old shag and dirty and the furniture is worn out. The beds are not comfortable, and found hair band in my bed also garbage at the headboard and underneath the bed. The kitchen is well stocked with plenty of dishes and silverware but only 2 thin dish towels and only plastic cutting boards. The main living room windows were smudged with many finger and hand prints that are very visible on sunny days. The bathroom towels need a bleach washing as they had strong odor of mildew even after being washed with scented soap. If you have a large group with several kids and dogs this would be a good home to rent.

Deck was great for a large group. House really needs updated as too much money for what we received. not a great value.

We stayed here years ago, and we absolutely loved coming back to visit this home. The upgrades to the kitchen were especially nice! Can't wait to come back again.
