So interesting and fun!!!!!! Great great place
This Place has got you covered! Blow dryer, Straighter, Curling tools you name it , they even have coffee station! Pots and pans to cook and extra blankets! We loved our stay at The Frey!
I almost don’t want to say anything that would make this place even more popular and therefore harder to rent. But in a nutshell: significant piece of architectural history, fantastic location, hidden gem, very clean, well appointed.
The moment you unlock the gate you are greeted by a dramatic spiral staircase. This is your first clue that you've entered a magical space. I enjoyed my stay at the Frey as much due to it's spectacular location as the historical significance of the building itself. The proximity to favorites like Copley's, Workshop and Koffi is unbeatable, but also everything in town is within walking distance. I parked my car in the provided spot and never needed it again until I departed for home. Inside, the furnishings were well-curated and everything felt era-appropriate, yet still functioned to a modern standard, which means the AC works great, the showers were warm, and I was able to easily prepare meals when I felt inclined. There are photos from when the Frey was the only building on the block, and while this is no longer the case, the privacy afforded by the clever choices the owner's made allowed me to imagine I was living back in that era, enhanced further by the amount of preservation and careful restoration of the space. The outdoor patio that overlooks Palm Spring's main strip made for the best people-watching and this would be a prime spot during Pride with the parade happening right outside. Tip: Venture downstairs into the antiques shop under your feet and you can see even more of the original construction of this wonderful structure, corrugated ceilings especially. I enjoyed this self-guided "tour" and the shop owners are very welcoming of us architecture enthusiasts. This is surely one of the most historically significant, comfortable, and centrally-located rentals in all of Palm Springs.
I was so excited to see I could stay in a historic Albert Frey in downtown Palm Spring! I love Palm Springs architecture and the history of the modern movement there. Usually there are no homes from any of these renowned architects. Then I stumbled upon this place that is not only an actual Frey, but at a fantastic price! Inside you get to see photos of when it was built, sitting alone on what is now a busy downtown shopping street. Hard to imagine the dirt road and the vastness of the area around it. It was so great to see that very little has changed from when it was designed. With the addition of the much needed, modern AC, it looks like the historic photos provided! What a concept for almost 100 years ago! The area is perfect for shopping, walking, restaurants and museums! You really don't need a car as you step out onto the main strip. If you do, you have a parking space, pool accessibility, and the cutest coffee and shopping just under your feet (literally). The second floor space gives you incredible views of the west facing mountains and the pink evening skies. You can dine somewhere different for each meal for weeks and not repeat yourself (though I did at some that were just too good). The space is so peaceful for being in the heart of it all. The bed is a king and sooo comfortable. I slept amazing after a 12 hours drive. A perfect size for two to just relax, enjoy the history of the space and the access to the city :)
I had the opportunity to stay in the Frey building right in the heart of beautiful Palm Springs and words can not describe my experience fully. The building sits right above a vintage shop, just around the corner from a wonderful ice cream place, and a 5 minute walk to all the shopping and diverse dining options. You can wake up and have a coffee while looking at a perfect view of the mountains on an outdoor lounge. All the amenities were lovely! Such a privilege to spend our waking and sleeping moments in such a historic, modernist, and iconic gem in Palm Springs.
