We loved waking up and sitting on the porch. The property is a great spot. Close to the beach but gives you a different perspective of the forgotten coast.

My wife and I stayed at the Markley House for almost a week. Summary – it is a very nice house, and to summarize, I would be tempted to stay in it again. Pros The house layout is well designed. The kitchen is great. It was well stocked and well lit. It could easily handle four respectful cooks. The appliances are all very new and worked great. Lots of counter space. The adjoining living room was also well laid out, and it had quality furniture, as was found throughout the house. Nice big TV and wifi, of course. A must have for me was a covered deck area. Beautiful sunset views each evening. The owners placed a screen on the porch that can shade part of the deck when the hot afternoon sun bears down. An uncovered section of the deck could be used for sunbathers. The bedrooms and bathrooms were all spacious enough…that is…nothing felt cramped. The large master shower was great. I fished some from the dock and caught a few flounder, as well as saw manatees and dolphin daily. If you liked to cast net for mullet, this is a great place for that. Other things We’ve stayed in bay side houses before and always enjoyed the docks – a key feature for a bay house. The dock for this house seems to be primarily for the service of the owner’s boat, which is large and very nice and resides at the end of the dock perpendicular to the dock – raised up in the boat lift. This is not in the pictures. I’m sure it is not always there, but was during our stay. So, there is really not ac comfortable space at the end of the dock to go sit at night and star gaze or fish. You really can’t cast from that area, just up and down the dock. There is a good fish cleaning table at the end near the boat. The owner may be building a swim platform at the end…there was some preliminary construction while we were there, but no built-in place to safely sit on the dock, as some places have. The shoreline is built up with broken concrete pieces (old sidewalks, etc.) , which is much needed to deter erosion, but there’s no easy way to put in a kayak or to easily/safely get in the water. The beds are firm, as one could expect to have in a rental. But if we come back we’ll have to get a topper or something beforehand. Our 60 y/o+ backs were very sore and even thought of cutting off one day early due to this, but we didn’t. The exterior door from the master bedroom to the deck couldn’t be opened. I mean, I could have tried harder but I was afraid I might would hurt something (me or the door or both). Houses that endure hurricane rain and wind can’t always have everything perfect. I thought of the situation as an extra security feature, lol. You should be able to park three cars under the house unless the owner's boat trailer is on-site. But additional cars can be parked in front of the house.
