Overview
This cute home is located in 'The Rookery' in the heart of Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge, it is only ½ mile from the beautiful quiet, white sand beaches of Baldwin County and the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. And with only a short, 15 minute drive to all the attractions, shopping, events, and restaurants in Gulf Shores this is a perfect vacation getaway or snowbird paradise. The wildlife refuge is a 6,000 acre nature preserve that offers several easy trails through saw grass, marsh, and slash pine forest where you can encounter 500 different animals and bird species. The Fort Morgan Peninsula is in the bird and butterfly migration route. In early spring and late fall, the whole peninsula is alive with birds and butterflies including Monarchs and Gulf Fritillaries. In addition to the usual gulls and sand pipers, you may find kestrel, anhinga, osprey, great blue heron, and several different species of hawks, including sharp-shinned and Cooper's. Bring your camera so you can take your own little bit of paradise home with you. The home is in a quaint beach community, where island living is at its best. The Rookery offers boat and trailer parking and the Gulf Shores Yacht Club is only5 miles away where you will find a marina and boat dock. There is also a boat launch at Historic Fort Morgan six miles to the West on highway 180 where you can also catch the Mobile Bay Ferry to Dauphin Island. There are two premier golf courses nearby at Kiva Dunes and The Peninsula and there are several outlets for rental of water sports equipment nearby. The kitchen is fully equipped with all the cookware, utensils, and dishes needed for home cooking, and there are also restaurants nearby. Linens and bedding are provided for you and the house has a new, full size clothes washer and dryer. Adequate starter supplies are also provided for your convenience. 0% customer service with Vacasa. Home barely has water pressure and Vacasa was no help.
Quiet place and very nice.
We encountered water pressure issues during our entire 9 Day stay. Contact was made with Vacasa on at least two occasions starting on Day 2. A maintenance gentleman did show up on Friday Day 3 and advised we definitely had water pressure issues, but he could not fix the problem and the company would send someone else. That was the last we heard about it. No one else showed up and Vacasa no longer responded to our messages. We experienced great difficulty while attempting to use water during our entire vacation…a few examples- at times we could not take a shower as we did not have any water coming out of the faucet, toilets would not flush, issues using the wash machine due to lack of water, issues filling the coffee pot or doing dishes due to lack of water and no water would come out of the water hose outside and could not rinse sand off feet prior to coming into house. I paid around $2,000 to stay at this house and it saddens me deeply that Vacasa was not concerned with the lack of water available at the house and did not send a second person to fix it. In addition the blue couch in the living room is broke and every time we sat on it the couch made a popping sound. We were definitely concerned that it would just fall apart and break while someone was sitting on it. It appears the wood frame was cracked - broken and it was very noticeable. I do not understand why Vacasa or the company or individual who owns this property would not immediately replace the damaged broken couch. I imagine it is a company who owns the house and not an individual and the company does not take any pride in the house. Very sad. I hope Vacasa addresses the lack of water and the broken couch before renting this house to another family. I would not recommend anyone staying at a Vacasa property as it appears they are not concerned about the safety and wellbeing of those who rent houses
