Quaint Beach Getaway with Beach Access Ocean View and Perfect Location Near Town

I love this house. It’s old and dated and lacks some modern amenities (no dishwasher or washer/dryer) but who cares with a panoramic view and steps to the ocean. We have been coming here for years and I’m already dreaming of my next trip

I normally rent through Airbnb, however this trip I decided to try Vrbo/Vacasa. Before we made our reservations, I had checked reviews on the Breakers Cottage. There were some reviews stating issues with uncleanliness and items that needed attention or fixed. Being the reviews had been months prior; I assumed these issues would have been dealt with. Not the case. I don’t even know where to begin. Yes, this place is right on the ocean, has a beautiful view and is located close to town, however, the place is run down and needs many repairs along with a thorough cleaning. The photos need to be updated because they definitely don’t show the true picture. The yard has not had attention in a while; there is more sand than lawn and the deck is missing a step. Looks like it used to have one but it broke or rotted and they shoved it under the deck. This made for a tall step to the ground. Access to the beach was going down a steep rock wall or you could walk under a block away and the access was a bit easier but still rocky. The interior was less then desirable. We could overlook the place being outdated; however, the carpet, linoleum floors and baseboards were filthy. There was a sign at the door stating “homeowner is asking to kindly remove your shoes.” Sadly, there was no way we were walking in our socks on that floor. The center of the bathroom floor had been mopped; however, the edges were grimy. There was dry rot by the back door, the bedroom heater did not work, the kitchen sink faucet wanted to drip, the stove was wobbly and I don’t think the range hood had ever been cleaned. Cupboard drawers and doors were sticky, dishes had to be cleaned before use, there was no rhyme or reason to the placement of things in the kitchen cupboards, very unorganized and there were no large fry pans. Yet in the overview it states “the chef of the group will be in paradise knowing that a fully equipped kitchen awaits boasting all of the appliances of home”, very misleading. This cottage is also very small to house six guests and two dogs. I don’t believe the reviews are read and if they are, there is no action taken to fix things that are mentioned or make things better for the guests. Not a very good first impression and we will not return.

This was a very cozy cottage in an excellent location. We were also very pleased that it was dog friendly. It may be lacking in updates, but it suited our needs and was a great spot in which to hunker down and watch the stormy ocean.

Amazing ocean front view! Loved the small yard right on the waterfront. However, it had some issues (TV and AC were not working and unable to use the grill) and it is ready for some updates. Great value but also get what you pay for.

Great location, seemed a bit run down this time. A little less clean than usual. Still a nice place.
