Overview
Incredibly situated only 400 feet from the nearest beach access point, Grey Seal is a place for family vacations, couples' retreats, and reunions with friends and loved ones near the very heart of Lincoln City. With more than 3,000 square feet of living space, this home offers a private hot tub, an expansive game room, and four bedroom suites with private bathrooms - all within walking distance of the gorgeous ocean beach. Built in 2016 in the third row back from the ocean, this three-level home is polished, spacious, and well-designed for a group. Enter by way of a covered porch and a two-story foyer, and make your way into the open great room that's lined with windows. Anchoring this airy, communal space is a modern kitchen with white quartz countertops, LG stainless steel appliances (including a French-door refrigerator and freezer, a five-burner gas stove, a large oven, and a dishwasher), and an oversize island with bar seating for four. There are both drip and Keurig coffee makers, all sorts of bonus tools such as a rice cooker, and an adjoining dining room with seating for 14. Seamlessly connecting to this space is an open living room with a sectional sofa, a gas fireplace, a 55-inch Smart TV, and built-in cabinets storing DVDs and board games for your enjoyment. There are two decks on this floor - a shaded deck off the living room with a gas grill for summer barbecues and a sheltered deck off the entry hall (with frosted glass walls for privacy and wind protection) that's home to the private hot tub. Even more entertainment awaits downstairs in the media room, where you'll find foosball, air hockey, shuffleboard, and Pacman gaming tables, as well as a 55-inch flatscreen TV. When it's time to turn in, there are four bedroom suites - each with its own private bathroom, memory foam mattress, Smart TV, built-in USB plugs, and closet with extra blankets and a luggage rack. There's one bedroom suite with a walk-in tile shower on the main floor, and three more suites with tub/shower combinations upstairs. Additional amenities include a memory foam sofabed in the media room with an adjacent full bathroom, a half-bath on the main floor, free WiFi throughout the house, and an ocean view laundry room with a front-loading washer/dryer and a utility sink. Great property for friends and families as well. Each of the four bedrooms has its own attached bathroom, plus a common area half bath. The open kitchen / dining / living space was nice for prepping meals and conversation. The expansive table seated all comfortably for meals as well as cards and games. The property was quiet inside and out. Plan to stay here again.
We loved our stay at Gray Seal. Love that four of the bedrooms, have master baths, and lots of gathering room in the kitchen, the dining room room, and the great room rooms. Great location in town. The kitchen and rooms are stocked well. We’d recommend to all!
My husband and I chose this house for a coast birthday celebration for our 2 teens and 7 of their friends. We had a few big disappointments. KITCHEN SMELL. For the first evening of our stay I couldn’t figure out where the terrible smell in the kitchen was coming from. The next day when Casey (the very nice temporary local rep) arrived to try to fix the Wifi she went straight to the bottom fridge drawer and found the source of the stink. It had clearly not been cleaned out UNDERNEATH the drawer for quite some time. Besides a pretty normal collection of crumbs and debris, I think maybe meat had gone bad in there and left juice that had then dried. Also, there was no WiFi the entire weekend. 1. Because there was no wifi, none of the four Smart TVs could be used for streaming. 2. Because there was no wifi, the central heat (which is controlled by a “smart” thermostat) could not be turned up. We discovered that the wifi wasn’t working on Friday evening when we tried to turn the heat up and the teens sat down to watch their planned movies. On Saturday around noon, Casey, the local rep came by to try to fix it. She and my husband probably worked at it for about an hour and Casey made multiple calls and texts but in the end it was to no avail. We WERE grateful that at least the FIREPLACE worked without wi-fi, haha. It took the chill out of the evening air in the living room. I honestly can’t understand how the fridge could possibly have come to be in that stinky state without any other guests noticing, but a good fridge clean-out should be part of the housecleaning checklist. I also think that given the house’s advertised technology, that the housecleaners or local staff should be tasked with doublechecking that the Wifi works BEFORE new guests arrive. Guests want to get what the website description has lead them to expect AND what they’ve paid for. To be fair to the house, I will also describe what we DID like about it: 1. A quick 5 minute jaunt down to the beach. 2. A 5 to 20 minute walk to several places that our teens loved like candy shops, coffee, and Granny's Attic. 3. spacious comfy seating for our group of 11 around the fireplace and dining table 4. Fantastic game room in the basement 5. Great sizes and configurations of beds 6. very generous number of bathrooms! Oh, wait, a few last things. Consider bringing extra blankets from home if you sleep cold (or if the thermostat isn’t working, haha) and extra hot tub towels if everyone in your group will want to use the hot tub. WRT a few other supplies, the house supplies a small box labeled “Vacasa starter pack” that contained only 2 pods of dishwasher detergent and only 2 pods of laundry detergent. We definitely would have liked at least 3. For a Friday-Sunday stay no one should have to go buy these items. And we felt that a 2 just set a tone of stinginess.
I have both bad and good news. First the bad. There were ABSOLUTELY NO FANS available for guests to use. The house was hot when we arrived in the evening. Windows were difficult to open, and some windows did not open at all, making sleeping difficult due to heat. We asked for fans, but the owners and property managers REFUSED to provide fans. The week cooled, and we managed. What I find telling, is that no one responsible for this rental could see the value in going the extra mile to insure their guests were comfortable. Fans are on sale in September. A $65.00 investment on bedroom fans, would have been a win - win, not only for us, but for future guests. Homes on the OR Coast generally do not have A/C. The freezer stopped working on our second full day. We had purchased LOTS of food for meals, soda, etc. By the end of the day, the refrigerator was no longer staying cold. We reported this to the property manager who sent a repair technician. After a quick look of less than 5 minutes, he declared it " not working" and said he would be back later. We asked for 1 bag of ice, which he provided. We NEVER SAW HIM AGAIN, and no one contacted us again, although I contacted them repeatedly through texting and calling. When it became apparent no one was going to fix the refrigerator, we asked to borrow 2 coolers, and ice so our food wouldn't spoil, etc. Again NO RESPONSE. Because of the negative experience we had with the property management and owners, we will not use this house again, and we will NEVER use VACASA property management in the future. I would also like to mention that it appeared that my text messages were answered by a "programmed script". Phone calls off hours were outsourced. This setup lacks warmth, personal service, and frustration. I can't name one individual who loves outsourced phone calls. In an effort to save money ( fans, refrigerator, poor communication source) the owners lost good, rule following, quiet, guests who respect people's property. We spent way more money on this rental than it would have cost to address the first 2 problems. I hope the owners think it was worth it. Now the good news. House was very clean. No obvious pests. Ideal bedrooms with each having its own bath. House furniture and furnishings were appropriate and appreciated. Ideal space for 4-5 older women. Close to shopping, beach, and entertainment. Great location for us. SUGGESTIONS *Hooks near the hot tub to hang towels. *No slip flooring or mats in the bathtub and showers. Very slippery! *Instructions for the main TV said to use the "black remote". There were multiple black remotes. Perhaps you could label them? * Instruction for each tv and remote, posted near each TV, would be helpful. BOTTOM LINE. We loved the house! We will, however, NEVER BOOK AGAIN THROUGH VACASA due to the owners and property management's indifferent attitude towards things that should have been easy to address. Sincerely, Lori Pat Jeanne Sharalee
