Overview
Elk Mid-Century - Guest House
Wake up to the sights and sounds of ocean waves at this Elk home, a breathtaking oceanfront retreat with beautiful mid-century style, a gorgeous deck that overlooks the water, and stunning sunset views of Greenwood Cove and the surrounding cliffs. This home is half of a duplex that sits atop the bluffs in Elk, an oceanfront community on a particularly beautiful stretch of Highway 1. Stop for breakfast at Queenie's Roadhouse Cafe on your way to Greenwood State Beach each morning, take scenic drives to Mendocino (16 miles north) and Point Arena (19 miles south), and end each evening with a sunset cocktail on your ocean-facing deck. Whether you choose to spend your days reading by the fireplace (wood is provided), sharing photos on the free WiFi, or dining outside on the deck, you'll feel right at home in this elegant space. Prepare breakfast in the mod-style kitchen, soak in a few rays of sun in a lounge chair on the deck, and choose a Netflix favorite to watch with your loved ones each night. Please note that the adjacent, two-bedroom main house is available for rent as well (the two homes are connected via the garages), and that both units can be rented together as the four-bedroom Mid-Century Elk. Home is made up of two units that share a deck. Please be respectful of guests in other home. I wish I’d trusted the negative reviews. We stayed Aug 15–17 at Elk Mid-Century – Guest House and had no running water/no flushing from check-in until ~9:00 a.m. the next day. Overnight support kept us in a loop and couldn’t reach local ops; maintenance only came in the morning. After water was restored the place was pretty and as pictured, but this is a duplex with a shared deck and Wi-Fi is very spotty. What sealed it: the refund process was mishandled (Wyndham award night refund not correctly reinstated). Based on this experience, I will not book through Vacasa again and recommend others avoid it.
Best patio view that we can ask for. It is a dream to stay in this property. Will be back if we are back in NorCal.
We absolutely loved our stay and cannot wait to return. Easy instructions to check in and no issues throughout our stay. The views are stunning and will be coming back again.
The architecture & view are fabulous. However, this house needs a good cleaning & some maintenance. Deck lighting was not working, dishes were dirty, lots of cobwebs & dust. Bed was super comfortable but you will be woken early by the sun (no window coverings) & road noise.
Can’t beat the views inside and out. Will return.
The house is quite a beautiful artistic architectural design. Although there were minor issues with Verizon reception, it wasn't bad. We were able to reliably stream our favorite shows to the TV every night using the Wifi and Chromecast. Less than a mile south of the house, across Highway 1 from the Elk Store, is a parking lot for the Greenwood Creek State Beach. We loved going hiking down to the beach and along the bluffs curving around to the museum. We appreciated the free EV charger in the Greenwood Creek State Beach parking lot. Also enjoyed a fine dinner and view at the Elk Cove Inn restaurant and a gourmet lunch at the Elk House.
