Secret Garden Oasis

This home was in a great location, steps away from the beach and a short distance to restaurants and shops.

I really enjoyed the home. I was nervous due to the reviews, but overall it was nice. Now 2 TVs did not work, the front door knob broke off and could not be fixed, and the dryer did not work. It is an older home so it has quirks. I would book again in hopes that there are not the same issues. I wish the TVs would have worked due to rain, but there were board games so that helped

This is a catfish property. There were open electrical outlets and an exposed live wire hanging from the ceiling. Vacasa sent someone out to tie it up higher where it was unreachable. The house has clearly not had any maintenance in a long time. The pictures are over 10 years old. There were nails sticking out of the floor in the upstairs bathroom in front of the toilet and concrete tiles missing in the pool area and the fence is falling away from the property. The deck has rotten and loose boards. The upstairs lookout area (which is not open to guest bc the railings fell off) is so hot that we had to put a blanket up to block the hot air. The mattress upstairs is unsleepable. There is a metal cage covering on the front door that can be unlocked where someone can open and undo the deadbolt and enter the home. EVERYTHING was dilapidated or broken. The gas oven only had a couple eyes working, the lights and fan knob was only usable with pliers and that eventually broke off and we could not turn the lights off, shutters were broken, creeping fig has grown over the whole property and we had to pull it away from steps because we were getting our feet caught in the vines. The property needs A LOT of work and we were informed that the owner won’t approve the improvements, but Vacasa is still renting it like it’s up to par. I don’t have enough time to list my disappointment and frustration that I was catfished with this property. Toilet back were broken, no tub stop for the only tub, wifi was the weakest of any of the networks around us, the dryer didn’t work, the fence around the pool was falling away from the property. DO NOT RENT!!!!! I’ve tried to post pics - not sure if it’s going to work.              

The house is large and in an ideal location. It is an older home and could use significant TLC. My issue is not with the house it is with Vacasa. I can assure you I will never ever rent another property managed by them. I will not waste time on the issues, just google " Vacasa Complaints" and you will understand.

Close proximity to beach and pier village, close/walking distance to restaurants and shopping, lovely pool and garden setting with plenty of shade, cozy decorations and comfortable for large family, lots of games and books and nice kitchen for cooking.

The location of this home was great and perfect for a beach weekend, however there was a very large storm on the day that we arrived and the entire property flooded (water up to shin height in front and backyard), and the pool also flooded. Electrical sparks were seen coming from the backyard during the flooding, which was reported to Vacasa staff but not addressed to my knowledge. The roof was leaking in several spots and the shower upstairs was not draining therefore unusable. The shower had very sharp, broken tile and the room upstairs had parts of the floor missing & covered by a rug. Once the flooding subsided, unfortunately the pool was filthy and brown. Someone from a pool company came out to work on it the following day but since it was so dirty, it was not clean/usable for our stay (and we purposefully chose a home with a pool). We have tried no less than 5 times to get in contact with the local management to discuss, but each time have only been able to contact the generic Vacasa staff who simply sends messages over to them to address, which is no fault to the Vacasa staff. The communication was unfortunately very poor and unprofessional- but the house is super cute and is in a great location!! I completely understand that weather cannot be controlled, but several issues with the home went unaddressed with us and we have yet to speak with the local team about it. Loved St. Simon’s Island as a first-timer!
