**Review of Our Stay at Sugar Shack Beach House** Unfortunately, our stay at Sugar Shack did not meet the expectations set by the listing, and there were numerous maintenance, cleanliness, and communication issues throughout our vacation. Upon arrival, we received a text message stating the house was ready. However, the door code did not work, and we had to call for assistance. It took approximately 15 minutes before we were finally able to access the property. Once inside, we found several issues that should have been addressed before guest arrival: * A broken beach chair was left near the front porch. * Dirty linens from the previous guests were still piled on the porch. * The dishwasher was completely full of dirty dishes. * There was sand on both the downstairs and upstairs floors. * The upstairs showers were dirty, and both shower heads emitted a very strong sewage odor, making them unusable. * The outdoor shower had green water and also smelled like sewage, so it could not be used. The property's maintenance was also disappointing: * The grass was knee-high when we arrived and was not mowed until Wednesday. * We never received the promised email regarding trash pickup day. * The dryer barely worked. Even on the highest heat setting, it would only partially dry three towels after three separate 70-minute cycles. * Several sections of the screened porch had screens cut out. * Numerous nails were sticking up from the porch, steps, and around the doorway, creating a significant safety hazard. The pool area also needed attention: * No one serviced the pool during our entire stay. * The pool remained cloudy throughout the week. * There were multiple areas of broken concrete around the pool that were sharp enough to cut the bottoms of our feet. Our biggest concern, however, was privacy. We discovered security cameras on the property, yet there were **no signs posted anywhere** indicating that video surveillance was in use, and the cameras were **not disclosed in the property listing**. This made our family feel extremely uncomfortable and violated. Guests deserve to know in advance if they are being recorded in any outdoor areas of a rental property. Overall, while the house has potential, the condition it was presented in and the lack of communication and maintenance significantly impacted our vacation. We hope these issues are addressed so future guests receive the experience they expect when booking this property.
Surrounded by a thick stand of trees on a quiet street and only a 4 minute walk to the beach.
Great location, short walk to the beach. The weather was not in our favor but we made the most of what we had. Pool and hot tub is a great feature especially with it being private. We will be back!!
We loved everything about the home, especially the pool. Everything was fresh and clean when we arrived. The beautiful decor makes this a very comfy beach home! It comes with lots of beach accessories.
We absolutely enjoyed our stay! We loved our quick walks to the beach and to local stores!
First time in OBX. The house was cozy and secluded and as advertised by the pictures. A short walk to the beach, great food and restaurants, and we did not have to wait at all. The house was private and set back and lined with trees.
