Overview
Discover Brooks Island Refuge. It's your unique sound-front vacation destination. Cross a bridge to the small neighboring island of five houses in Brigands Bay. Four sound-front lots on the tip of Brooks Island deliver privacy, awesome views, and sound-front water access. Drive your loaded vehicles into the windsurfing bay where there's plenty of room for rigged sails, kites, and boards. Level one has three bedrooms and a full bath. Level two is splendid living with 10-foot ceilings and a complete entertainment package. The great room is complemented by a fully-equipped kitchen, a breakfast bar, a formal dining area, a half-bath, and a screened porch with a hot tub. Look across the Pamlico Sound to the Canadian Hole from the third-story deck. Retire to level three to one of the two glassed-in main bedrooms, each with a bath, privacy, and tremendous views! Brooks Island Refuge is special in Hatteras because you are on the sound, but you have little close to you other than nature. There are many birds in the wetlands and there is a forested island nearby. It is a quiet rental surrounded by water and nature.

Awesome sunset views!
The good, one of the best "sound" locations in the national seashore. Very private, 280 degree elevated sound views, fantastic sunrise, sunsets! Great water amenities, Kyak, paddle board, floaties, surf board, bikes. Two outdoor showers with plenty of hot water! Fantastic bird watching, crabbing. Kitchen was very well stocked, refrig and stove nice and clean, worked well. Heavenly location! The bad, the house is filthy, floors, baseboard mouldings, carpeting, vent registers all disgusting! Literally falling lint dirt and filth out of every register. Two thirds of the Kitchen lights do not work you are cooking in partial light, the hot tub jets, most don't work. The extra linens and blankets are tossed up into the closet, not folded. The trash bins from previous guests were full to the top, Maggots! First thing our family did was pick up all the trash, two full kitchen bags outside and could not get it all. Broken doors in master bedroom. Broken locks at the hot tub. Floors had not been cleaned well in forever it seemed, you got dirty feet walking around "after you showered". Clearly this was not a "one off" from prior messy guests. This is built up dirt and disrepair over time. Either the owners don't care or the management service is negligent. Appeared no one is actively maintaining this property. The decor is non existent, not a cute or themed outer bank rental. However, the location again was perfect!
The island is so beautiful! The changing light, the birds, the fish, the sunsets, the solitude…. Wow. The house needs some TLC but it is functional and still worth the trip!
We truly enjoyed our stay and it was quite restful! However the age of the home is starting to show in the furniture and exterior decking/staircases.
Secluded with amazing views all around. Great vacation home for you and the family. Hot tub worked great everything but the LEDS. Overall great place to stay would definitely go again.
