The only reason that I gave this rental two stars is because of the newness of the house and the well appointed kitchen. The decor was nice, and the size of the house was good. That was where the good things ended. When we first arrived at the house, I noticed a foul smell when I turned on the kitchen faucet. Upon using the other faucets, I realized that the house has a vile stench coming from the smell of sulfur in the water. Whenever any faucet is turned on the horrendous smell of rotten eggs comes from the pipes. We had to use bottled water to brush our teeth, and my young son gagged the entire time he was in the shower because the whole bathroom smelled of rotten eggs. A whole home water purification system is neither expensive nor is it time-consuming to install, so it is unacceptable that Vacasa accepts rental payments from unsuspecting renters and then leaves them to deal with the foul stench in this house. I have stayed in multiple rental houses in the area and also had family that used to live there as well, and no one has ever had this issue before. It was utterly disgusting. Also, the back door does not lock at all. The deadbolt is stuck in and the handle does not work. I reported this to Vacasa when we checked in and there was no follow up whatsoever. The beds in the house squeak so incredibly loudly there is no way two people can sleep in the king sized bed without waking each other up. My mother and son slept in the bunk beds and I could hear the bed every time they even rolled over or got up, while in the other bedroom with the door closed. I thought that just the king size bed was loud, but it was theirs as well. Both of them complained about it. Lastly, at approximately 4:00 AM on two mornings a huge group of dogs began barking. It sounded like we were in the middle of a kennel. There had to have been at least 10 to 15 dogs. One morning, someone in the neighborhood came out and began screaming for them to be quiet. I looked at the clock and it was 4:20 AM.
Loved the carport area under the house with the outdoor shower, spray for shoes/feet, and the chairs. House was in a great local location to go to Holden Beach and the local restaurants/stores. House was very clean and had everything needed in the kitchen plus a grill outdoors. The only drawbacks are there is no dishwasher, the water has a sulfur smell, the bunk bed really squeaks when a person moves, and we had trouble with the lock. Otherwise, we had a great time and would stay there again.
This was the perfect spot for my family to stay for a last minute getaway. The home was so nice and new, we really loved the outdoor space as well!
We booked this house for our 5th anniversary trip and we absolutely LOVED staying here! It was nestled away from the road, but a very short drive over to Holden. The house was so great! The balcony and the underneath patio were so nice to have to sit out on! The bed in the main bedroom so super soft and cozy! The couches were so comfy to relax in and the kitchen was a dream! A big plus that the tv’s were roku and we were able to catch up on our show at night! It’s also very conveniently located near a food lion and a few restaurants. We will definitely will consider staying here again!
Very accessible to customer service when you have any questions or issues that arise! Great location.
The home was in a perfect, quiet little location. Everything in the home was very clean, & worked perfectly. It was a short drive to the beach, & there are so many restraunts & gift shops near by. If you get a chance I highly recommend Cafe Ahora! The coffee, pastries & service were fantastic!
