Ocean City, Maryland and the Delaware Beaches are just a few hours from the Washington, DC Metropolitan Region; Baltimore, Maryland; Philadelphia, PA area. You will find beautiful soft sandy beaches with plenty of room to bring the whole family and enjoy the clear waters of the Atlantic Ocean. These beach areas include Ocean City, Maryland; Ocean Pines, Maryland; Fenwick Island/South Bethany Beach, Delaware; Bethany Beach, Delaware; Rehoboth Beach, Delaware; Lewes, Delaware and Ocean View, Delaware.
Each beach area has its own personality. Ocean City, Maryland is loaded with activities that begin at the beach with a long boardwalk to enjoy amusement rides, arcade games, restaurants and bars—you must get your Thrasher’s Fries while you’re visiting—they are a locals' favorite! When you are done on the boardwalk/inlet area; head to mid-town Ocean city and you’ll find mini-golf courses, more restaurants and bars, as well as shops, stores and water sports activities like jet-skiing, fishing, and boating. Then you come to North Ocean City where it’s a little quieter and the beaches are a little less crowded. You’ll still find fun activities like nearby golf courses, playgrounds and marinas.
When you leave Ocean City heading North, you’ll cross over into Delaware and find Fenwick Island and South Bethany Beach. This area is known for great fishing, which a variety of fish species that can be caught by boat on one of the local charters. Anglers can try their luck catching flounder, sea bass, and blue fish or white marlin to name just a few. Stop at Fenwick Island State Park or the Assawoman Wildlife Area and enjoy the beautiful sand dunes and wildlife in the area.
As you keep heading North, you come to Bethany Beach which is known for it’s small beach town feel. Families love the area for the playgrounds, walking in the downtown area and eating an ice cream cone as you stop at one of the many local shops. The beaches are filled with families playing in the sand and surf too.
If you go just a few miles West you’ll find the town of Ocean View, Delaware which is popular for families and golfers. Bear Trap Dunes (3 separate courses) and Bethany Bay Golf Club are in Ocean View with communities surrounding them that offer homes, townhomes and condos. Families enjoy the communities because of the outdoor pools, playgrounds and places they can ride bicycles. It’s a short drive to Bethany Beach too.
As you travel a bit further North you will find Rehoboth Beach in Delaware. With beautiful, wide beaches and a boardwalk, Rehoboth Beach is a favorite. If you want to walk along the beach on the boardwalk or sit and people-watch, it is a great place to hang out. Go shopping on the town’s main street, Rehoboth Avenue where you will find restaurants, boutique shops, cafes and ice cream shops. The Cape Henlopen State Park is nearby and popular for fishing and kayaking. Don’t miss out on the free concerts and events hosted in Rehoboth Beach at the Bandstand.
Lewes, Delaware is a charming historic town located on the coast of the Delaware Bay. Visit the local museums and the Lewes Historical Society complex which includes several restored buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries. Lewes is near the cape Henlopen State Park which has a WWII observation tower, hiking trails and a beautiful beach. The Great Marsh Preserve is a popular spot for kayaking and canoeing. Visit downtown Lewes on Second Street to visit shops, restaurants and cafes. Take a ride on the Cape May-Lewes Ferr connects Lewes to Cape May, New Jersey providing visitors with a unique way to explore both towns.
