In the late 1800s, early Mormon settlements led to the town’s growth through ranching and mining. A 1950s uranium boom, which lasted just over a decade, once earned the town the moniker of “Uranium Capital of the World.” Today, Moab is now known as the “Heart of the Canyonlands,” and tourism has taken center stage.
