About

East Nashville is home to revitalized turn-of-the-century homes, an artsy atmosphere, and unique pubs and restaurants. One such eatery is the Butcher & Bee. While its roots took hold in Charleston, South Carolina, this dining hotspot grew rapidly in Music City.

Michael Shemtov is the founder who launched the original concept in Charleston back in 2011. His initial idea was to craft gourmet sandwiches using locally sourced, high-quality ingredients. However, the team expanded their culinary horizons when they realized that diners sought shared plates and communal dining.

In 2015, the restaurant expanded and opened its anticipated location in East Nashville. The chic neighborhood was ideal for the restaurant’s unique blend of Mediterranean-inspired dishes and Southern hospitality.

In short order, it became a local hotspot for its farm-to-table offerings.

Throughout its history, the focus has remained steadfast on creating a welcoming space where food builds community. Over the years, the establishment has grown from a humble sandwich shop into a full-service culinary powerhouse.

As part of the Honest to Goodness Hospitality Group, Butcher & Bee is related to sister restaurants the Redheaded Stranger and Fancypants. All three eateries offer unique spins on classics and regional favorites in non-pretentious, forward-thinking settings.

At Butcher & Bee, every dish is a storyteller, blending regional tales with global inspirations. Discover for yourself why this eatery has become a must-visit in Nashville.

Vibe

The restaurant is in the former Capitol City Mattress Company (a.k.a., the Fluffo Mattress Company) building. The 1930 facility has since been revitalized and is now occupied by several businesses, including Butcher & Bee.

The painted brick facade with the script “Butcher & Bee” set the tone for your meal. With its striking blend of industrial elements and artistic touches, it blends with East Nashville’s hip vibe.

The industrial elements shine inside, with exposed ductwork, high ceilings, and original brickwork. Creative touches include warm wood accents, lush green plants, and ambient light throughout.

When it comes to seating, the main dining floor features comfortable booths and tables, while the expansive outdoor patio offers al fresco dining under a canopy of string lights.

No matter the reason for your visit, the welcoming ambiance will enhance your dining experience.

Butcher & Bee: Menu & Drinks

The menu consists of two sections: Dips, Mezze, & Small Plates and Large Plates, with the bulk of choices in the first category.

A prime example and must-try dip is the whipped feta. This legendary appetizer features a rich, creamy base of whipped feta cheese, fermented honey, and a kick of cracked black pepper. Served alongside warm, wood-fired pita bread, the combination of sweet, salty, and savory flavors creates a perfect starting point for the meal.

The avocado crispy rice is another fan-favorite. This inventive creation combines crisped rice with fresh avocado and winter greens. A vibrant serrano dressing and spicy peanuts elevate the dish, offering a refreshing and texturally exciting experience.

From the Large Plate sections, and a nod to country dining, is the roasted, smoked, and glazed chicken. It comes with a creamy Peruvian aji verde dip and Moroccan couscous salad. If a whole chicken is too much, half orders are available.

The most appealing aspect of the menu is that it is ideal for a tapas-style meal. Also worth checking out are the Experiences, like the Butcher’s Feast. This dining adventure begins with the chef’s favorite mezzes and small plates, along with an endless variety of breads and spreads. Lastly, you’ll dine on an off-menu large-format special and signature kebab platter.

Regarding craft cocktails, Butcher & Bee draws inspiration four times a year for its libations. During the 2026 Winter Olympics, mixologists created gems like the Miracle on Ice. This cocktail features Wheatley Vodka, grilled pineapple cordial, Velvet Falernum, cream sherry, lime, and soda. You’ll also find plenty of creative non-alcoholic drinks and an impressive wine list.
