About

SunShine Swan Boat Excursions is family-owned and operated, offering private, tailor-made boat cruises. From sunset voyages to tubing, swimming, and fishing trips, there’s a package with your name on it.

At the helm is Captain Gina, whose passion is found in her company’s name. Like a ray of SunShine on a cloudy day, she thrives on delivering smiles and priceless memories to her guests.

SunShine isn't a big commercial operation with multiple boats where guests are jammed aboard like sardines. Instead, you'll discover a personal charter experience, built around your group and what you want to do. Best of all, every excursion is private!

When you book your adventure, you’ll depart from the Anna Point Marina, a convenient launch point for exploring the water. Here, you can buy sundries at Fish Tales or visit Lake Anna Outfitters for souvenirs, sunglasses, or a new bathing suit.

SunShine offers charter cruises ranging from a relaxing daytime cruise, a sunset ride, a fishing outing, a swim stop, or a tubing session packed with laughs. Regarding tubing, Captain Gina caters to her guests' comfort levels, offering either a slow, safe pace or a faster, adrenaline-filled experience. In short, you determine the speed.

The fishing tour comes with poles and bait, so all you have to do is show up. Additionally, SunShine Swan Boat Excursion provides all the safety gear, no matter which cruise you sign up for.

Speaking of safety, you’ll be in good hands as Captain Gina holds a USCG captain's license, along with CPR and First Aid certification. The business carries commercial insurance, all of which will give you peace of mind when booking an excursion.

Best of all, it’s Captain Gina’s guest-first approach that makes SunShine a go-to for birthdays, bachelorette trips, family reunions, and quiet getaways alike.

SunShine Swan Boat Excursions: Fun Facts & Cool Features

At the heart of the business and its success is Captain Gina’s private-only model that makes a cruise special. Because your group has the boat to itself, the trip bends to your plans. Want to fish for an hour, then swim, then wind down with a slow cruise? That mix works here. Such flexibility is what sets SunShine apart from other outfitters, as families with mixed interests can enjoy the freedom of a cruise that offers “something for everyone.”

The sun-filled day package features tubing, with various hourly slots. As mentioned, Captain Gina works with your group, adjusting the ride to match cautious first-timers with that of speed demons.

The sunset cruise offers a different kind of magic. As the light softens Lake Anna, the pace slows, and the whole boat settles into an easy calm. It's a natural fit for couples, small celebrations, or anyone who wants to end the day with a view worth remembering.

Fishing trips have their own charm, too, with supplies provided so guests can drop a line without hauling their gear from home. As with the other adventures, you can opt for various hourly trips.

The pontoon boat is another feather in its hat. It comfortably accommodates groups, making it a smart pick for bachelorette parties or reunions. Additionally, the craft is a clean, well-kept vessel that Captain Gina handles with skill, living up to her motto of “Safety First!”

A trip with SunShine Swan Boat Excursions will become a highlight of your Virginia vacation. The private setting, the range of activities, and the focus on safety create a day that suits nearly every kind of traveler.

Frequently Asked Questions

The best time to visit Lake Anna is from late May to early September, when water temperatures are ideal for swimming, tubing, and kayaking. But don't rule out Autumn, when the spectacular backdrop of changing leaves and comfortable weather makes hiking a delight.

Lake Anna is easily accessible by car and located at a convenient driving distance from several larger cities and urban areas:

  • From Washington, DC: 80 miles
  • From Richmond, VA: 50 miles
  • From Fredericksburg, VA: 20 miles

Definitely. Lake Anna State Park in Spotsylvania County hugs the shores of Lake Anna, offering a swimming beach, picnic areas, playground, and numerous other amenities. Note - there is an access fee to the lake area as well as a per person fee to the beach.

Lake Anna is divided into a larger Public Side extending north to south on the lake’s eastern shore, and a small Private Side in the southwest portion of the lake. In addition to the Public Side generally having cooler water than the Private Side, the former is where you will find waterfront marinas, restaurants, public launches, and other amenities accessible by boat.

The Private Side is considered to be the “warmer” part of Lake Anna and less crowded overall and is only accessible to property owners in that area. The two parts of Lake Anna are separated by a series of dikes so you cannot cross to the other side by boat.
