About

For a dining experience that has been a tradition in Bar Harbor since the 1920s, visit Jordan Pond House Restaurant. This iconic destination sits on the shores of Jordan Pond and is accessible only by entering Acadia National Park.

The story of this dining spot begins in the 1870s when Melvan Tibbetts established the restaurant. But it wasn't until 1895, when Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McIntire took over, that Jordan Pond House became a household name. By serving warm popovers and hot tea on the lawn, visitors could enjoy the pond with The Bubbles (mountains) in the background. What started as a fun idea blossomed into a must-experience on any Maine getaway.

The restaurant faced a devastating challenge in the summer of 1979 when a massive fire destroyed the original structure. Private fundraising efforts led by the Island Foundation, and a newly reconstructed building opened to the public in 1982.

But there's more to the menu than tea and pastries! Lunch and dinner features fresh Maine lobster and mouth-watering soups, sandwiches, and salads.

Whether you stop by while hiking Jordan Pond or visit to experience history, adding this dining spot to your itinerary is a no-brainer!

Vibe

The dining areas are multifaceted, with indoor seating for lunch and dinner, while the lawn features the Popover & Prosecco Bar. Which should you experience? Why, both, of course!

The rebuilt Jordan Pond House is a commanding, two-story building with seafoam blue trim. It blends into the natural landscape of Acadia National Park, framing the picture-perfect views of Jordan Pond. The sprawling lawn flows downhill to the water, with ample space for tables or blankets for a picnic.

The indoor dining room sports a vaulted, two-story ceiling with wooden accents, giving a nod to classic park lodges. Massive windows ensure everyone has an unobstructed view of the pond and mountains, which are the focal point.

Jordan Pond House Restaurant: Menu & Drinks

By now, you must have caught the thread connecting past diners with the present: the popovers. These light, airy pastries arrive warm at your table with sweet strawberry jam and creamy butter.

Ordering these iconic treats is done outdoors at the Popover & Prosecco Bar. Aside from the popovers, you'll find prosecco, wine, beer, tea, coffee, and non-alcoholic beverages.

For a taste of the coast, the lobster stew is a must. The creamy bisque is rich, with a hint of sherry, and plenty of fresh lobster. On a warm summer day, be refreshed with the flavors of the Spinach Bacon Blue Cheese salad. This healthy choice features farm-fresh spinach, Smoke House bacon, red onion, dried cranberries, and toasted pecans. A champagne vinaigrette unites flavors and vivid colors, with the option to add chicken, shrimp, lobster, or salmon for an additional cost.

The Lobster Popover is ideal for those craving a pastry but needing more sustenance. The lobster is seasoned with mayo, lemon, and tarragon, making for a filling yet refreshing meal. Also available are sandwiches, wraps, and handhelds, ensuring something for even your pickiest eater.

The entrees are your go-to after burning calories hiking Cadillac Mountain. The lobster mac and cheese is a showstopper that combines a decadent cheese sauce with generous portions of fresh lobster. Add the Ritz cracker crust, and you have a creative take on a comfort food classic!

While seafood is the dominant theme on the menu, you'll find farm favorites like Barolo Braised Beef Short Ribs and pasta primavera.

Regarding beverages, the sky is the limit! From creative cocktails to wine, beer, and house-made lemonade, there's a drink for every age, occasion, and craving.

We hope that by now, you can't wait to visit this iconic dining spot! Whether you sample the popovers or add a sit-down meal to your visit, Jordan Pond House Restaurant will be a highlight of your Bar Harbor vacation!
