About
I have visited Yellowstone National Park several times in my life. And each time provides a new experience that is always breathtaking!
The park, which is the World’s First National Park, spans more than 2.2 million acres and offers one of the best experiences for learning about the vast ecosystems in the whole world. Here you can experience the geothermal powers through the most active geysers and even watch nature come to life with a vast number of animals.
And during the summer months, there are a few things I simply love to do.
The first is hiking the trails. If you like hiking too, try to take one of the canyon day hikes, this is a fantastic opportunity. Another option is the Mammoth Hot Springs hikes. You can always do the traditional things like check out Old Faithful, which, if you have not done, you need to.
I also really enjoy the horseback riding here. There are numerous ways to do so, including private trips if you want an intimate group ride. I really enjoyed taking a two-hour guided horse ride at Tower Roosevelt and Canyon. It’s a beautiful region, and we experienced an incredible ride!
Fishing is another exciting opportunity for anyone who loves the outdoors. I have fished throughout the park and have caught rainbow trout, brown trout, cutthroat trout, and whitefish. The area is plentiful depending on the time of the year you visit. You can also take a guided fishing tour, which is an excellent option for those who are just checking out the area.
So whatever you're called to do, Yellowstone National Park offers something for everyone. I highly recommend making this one of the places on your vacation must-see list!
Cool Features of Yellowstone National Park
When you get the NPS app for the park, there is real-time Yellowstone Stream Flow data available on it. This is an excellent tool for those who are looking for elusive fish and want to up their chances. Just be careful because bears are everywhere.
Get out and boat! There are some excellent locations throughout the area, but I have to say that I have never kayaked in a better location than here. It is just so relaxing and welcoming, and challenging at the same time! You can certainly canoe here as well, and that makes a fun learning experience for first-timers.
Getting There
When I came for my last visit to Yellowstone National Park, I came in through the South Entrance. That is located right off I-191 and is near Snake River. You can easily navigate through much of the region from I-191, including Yellowstone Lake, where I happen to like to boat.

Local Tips
- Conditions range widely at Yellowstone, which is why I recommend that you spend some time checking the website to ensure you can access the area you desire before visiting. The webcams on their website are excellent.
- Download the Yellowstone National Park app! I did this with my last trip and was able to see some really great areas I had not before, and you also learn so much—the kids will love it.
- Get involved in the range program if you live close enough. It’s such an amazing experience for young and old and puts you in the heart of it. For my son, it was a great resume builder too!
- Whether you’re a skilled hiker or just beginning, I highly recommend bringing some bear spray with you—let’s just say I had a close call!
