About

There's an enchanting world in the Willamette Valley beckoning explorers, outdoor enthusiasts, and nature lovers. While it's void of fairies one associates with enchantment, it is rich with lush greenery, rocky precipices, and majestic waterfalls. Welcome to Silver Falls State Park!

The history of Silver Falls State Park stretches back thousands of years. The earliest inhabitants were the Kalapuya and Molalla tribes, whose ancestors made this bountiful land their home. Their presence still marks the area, a reminder of their deep roots connecting with nature.

On October 19, 1931, South Falls became park property, and it was named the "Silver Creek Falls State Park" by the Highway Commission that December.

The park officially opened on July 23, 1933, offering visitors a chance to experience Oregon's unique wilderness in all its glory.

Much of the early development of Silver Falls State Park can be credited to several New Deal programs. These Federally funded projects led to the construction of rustic-style park structures and trails that enhance today's visitor experience.

Fun Facts & Cool Features

One of the most enchanting features of Silver Falls State Park is its abundance of waterfalls. One waterfall stands out from the rest: South Falls.

This stunning cascade plummets over a 177-foot lava flow, offering visitors an awe-inspiring spectacle of nature's raw power and beauty. It's the perfect backdrop for those memorable vacation photos or a peaceful picnic spot.

The park is the largest state park in Oregon, stretching over 9,200 acres. With such vastness, Silver Falls State Park offers many outdoor activities. From hiking and bird-watching to horseback riding and mountain biking, there's something for everyone at Silver Falls State Park.

A fun fact about Silver Falls State Park is its role during the Great Depression. As part of the New Deal, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) developed the park. The CCC created jobs during a challenging economic period, and their work laid the foundation for Silver Falls State Park.

Visiting Silver Falls State Park is where you can immerse yourself in nature and history, appreciating the beauty of the present while honoring the past.
