About

If you're looking for a delightful and whimsical experience near Portland, look no further than Salem's Riverfront Carousel. This enchanting attraction is not just any carousel; it's a labor of love that combines history with Salem's creative talents and community spirit in one joyful whirl.

The story of Salem's Riverfront Carousel began in the early 2000s when a group of dedicated volunteers came together to create a cherished piece of art for their city.

Inspired by vintage carousels of the past, they embarked on a journey to craft a one-of-a-kind attraction that would capture the hearts of visitors of all ages.

The carousel's wooden animals, chariots, and other elements were meticulously hand-carved and hand-painted by skilled artisans. Each creature is a work of art, with intricate details that make them come alive as they spin in a mesmerizing dance.

The carousel was designed to be an actual community project, with members of the public having the opportunity to sponsor and name their favorite animals.

In 2001, after years of dedication and hard work, Salem's Riverfront Carousel opened to the public. Since then, it has become a beloved destination for locals and tourists, offering a magical experience that transports riders back to a simpler, more exhilarating time.

Fun Facts & Cool Features

One of the standout features of Salem's Riverfront Carousel is its collection of hand-carved and hand-painted wooden animals.

These creatures aren't your run-of-the-mill carousel horses. Since the New Dream project started a few years ago, they're a diverse cast of characters, including exotic animals, mythical creatures, and even some local wildlife.

Each animal is a unique masterpiece; part of the fun is deciding which one to ride.

The carousel also boasts a beautifully crafted band organ that provides the musical soundtrack for your ride. The melodious tunes add to the enchantment of the experience, evoking a sense of nostalgia for a bygone era.

Salem's Riverfront Carousel offers seasonal holiday specials like Photos with Santa and other themed attractions. It is also a great place to host a party or special event.
