About

Perched on a hill outside Portland is a historic mansion resembling an Edwardian-era British estate. Welcome to the grandeur of the Pittock Mansion

This historic estate symbolizes Portland's transformation from a pioneer town to a modern, industrialized city.

London-born publisher and business tycoon Henry Pittock and his wife, Georgiana, built Pittock Mansion between 1909 and 1914.

The couple moved into the home with eight other family members, creating a bustling household that was the center of society at the time.

Pittock Mansion was constructed using Tenino Sandstone, hand-picked by Edward Foulkes, a renowned San Francisco architect. The bright, red-tiled roof of the mansion can be spotted from various points in the city, making it an iconic part of the Portland skyline.

But the story of Pittock Mansion doesn't end with its construction. In the 1960s, the mansion was nearly razed to make way for a subdivision. Thankfully, the residents of Portland came together to save this historic landmark.

After 15 months of restoration, the mansion opened its doors to the public in 1965, allowing everyone to experience a piece of Portland's rich history.
