This remarkable place is a treasure trove of locomotive history that will transport you back to the golden age of rail travel.

Stepping into the Oregon Rail Heritage Center is like entering a time machine. This captivating museum celebrates the rich history of railroading in the Pacific Northwest.

Nestled in the heart of Portland, you can get up close and personal with some of the most iconic and beautifully preserved steam locomotives from yesteryears.

The Oregon Rail Heritage Center is all about preserving and showcasing the history of railroading in Oregon, and it does so brilliantly.

Established in 2012, it results from an effort spearheaded by the Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation. The center's primary mission is to educate, entertain, and inspire visitors of all ages about the significance of the railroad industry in shaping the state's past, present, and future.

Fun Facts & Cool Features

One of the most fascinating aspects of the Center is the collection of steam locomotives, including the Southern Pacific 4449, Southern Pacific 700, and the Oregon Railway and Navigation 197.

These colossal iron horses are meticulously maintained and occasionally fired up for special events, allowing you to witness history in motion.

The Oregon Rail Heritage Center is also home to a comprehensive collection of railroad artifacts, photographs, and interactive exhibits that provide insight into the evolution of rail transportation in the region. Whether you're a casual visitor or a die-hard railfan, you'll find something that piques your interest here.

But the real highlight is the opportunity to tour the interiors of some of these magnificent locomotives. Imagine climbing into the steam engine cab and experiencing the view engineers once had as they powered through the picturesque landscapes of the Pacific Northwest.
