About

Step into the pages of history at Glensheen Mansion, a grand estate perched on the picturesque shores of Lake Superior.

Visitors to Glensheen Mansion get a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of one of Minnesota's wealthiest families. With its stunning architecture, lush gardens, and rich history, Glensheen Mansion is a must-visit attraction that seamlessly combines elegance and intrigue.

Built between 1905 and 1908, the Glensheen Mansion was the family home of Chester and Clara Congdon, prominent figures in Duluth's history. The mansion is a prime example of the Beaux-Arts architectural style, featuring 39 lavishly decorated rooms. It's a testament to the Congdon family's prosperity during the early 20th century.

The mansion is also known for its dark and murky history. In 1977, it became the site of a notorious double murder when Elisabeth Congdon and her nurse were found dead. While the murderer, Elisabeth's adopted daughter, Marjorie's second husband, Roger Caldwell, confessed, it is unknown what role Marjorie played, if she played any at all.
