About

There's a dynamic hub of activity in Duluth steeped in maritime history and offering something for everyone. Welcome to Canal Park!

Its history dates back to the early 20th century when Canal Park played a crucial role in the city's flourishing shipping industry. Today, it's an epicenter of entertainment, dining, and shopping, with a rich past that adds depth to its modern appeal.

In its early years, Canal Park was the site of "evil resorts," as described by the Duluth News Tribune. These attractions were popular during the vice-ridden early days of the Twin Ports.

Canal Park underwent a significant transformation in the 1920s as part of the Canal Park Project. The goal: redefine the area's image and purpose. The project spanned from 1920 to 1924 and included the construction of the iconic Aerial Lift Bridge, which spans the Duluth Ship Canal and connects the city of Duluth with Minnesota Point.

Today, Canal Park has become an essential part of Duluth, known for its unique blend of historical charm and contemporary attractions.

Whether watching ships pass under the Aerial Lift Bridge, visiting local breweries, or exploring the twin lighthouses marking the harbor's entrance, there's no shortage of things to do at Canal Park.

Fun Facts & Cool Features

One of the most exciting features of Canal Park is undoubtedly the Aerial Lift Bridge. Watching cargo ships from around the world enter and depart the Twin Ports under the bridge is thrilling. The spectacle draws crowds and creates a sense of awe and wonder.

Another fun fact about Canal Park is its thriving brewery scene. The Canal Park Brewing Company is a local favorite, drawing inspiration from Lake Superior's wild beauty and the community's steadfast nature. Here, visitors can enjoy locally crafted brews while soaking in the stunning lake views.

Canal Park is also about the smaller, more intimate experiences. Walking across the Aerial Lift Bridge to Canal Park offers a unique area perspective. The steel structure connects the city with the park, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

There are also eateries, lodging, and scenic air rides, making visiting Canal Park on a Twin Ports vacation a must-do activity.

Canal Park reflects Duluth's history, is a hub for local culture, and where every visit creates a new adventure.
