The St. Lucie County Aquarium isn't your typical aquarium in Fort Pierce on the Treasure Coast. It is home to the Smithsonian Marine Ecosystems Exhibit, an exhibit unlike anything else, and has been open since 2001. 

With a partnership between St. Lucie County and the Smithsonian Marine Station, they strive to educate the public on the importance of marine ecosystems and their role in our everyday lives.

One of the most remarkable features of the St. Lucie County Aquarium is the Caribbean Coral Reef Ecosystem, a 3,000-gallon living model of a Caribbean coral reef. 

This exhibit is one of the most accurate and detailed living models of a coral reef in the world. It showcases various marine life, including colorful fish, corals, and invertebrates. 

The aquarium staff works diligently to maintain the reef, mimicking natural conditions as closely as possible to ensure the health and well-being of its inhabitants.

Another fascinating exhibit is the Indian River Lagoon. This display showcases the most biologically diverse estuary in North America and is home to more than 3,000 species of plants and animals.

Guests can see many of these creatures, ranging from seahorses to stingrays to exotic plants and flowers.
