About

I found out about Milton Reimers Ranch Park after I forgot to make a reservation at Hamilton Pools and didn't want to disappoint the family. And it's definitely the perfect option for a last-minute natural swimming opportunity.

Fortunately for me, Hamilton Pools has a sister property right next door that is also beautiful.

Taking my family there, I learned that Milton Reimers Ranch Park is primarily a swimming area, but there are other things to do including horseback riding, mountain biking, and hiking trail options. I say come and do them all!

And with direct river access, you can bring your watercraft (park district-approved, of course) to take advantage of it. This area of the river is also a great place to relax and just watch the water flow!

The park itself is filled with the incredible rolling hills of the North Texas Hill Country and pristine water, and is a great place for a day trip with anyone. You can easily spend the whole day here if you bring a picnic and water (restrooms are available, but no options to buy snacks or drinks).

There's a lot to love about this place, including the rock climbing opportunities (the place is considered a world-class destination for rock climbers).

And if you like to fish, Milton Reimers Ranch Park is your place. There are also opportunities for amazing fishing here. And of course, swimming is allowed as long as the weather conditions allow it.

With plenty of educational programs that take you on a two or three mile hike in the countryside, you can see the natural history of the area while enjoying the company of the tour.

Interesting Facts About Milton Reimers Ranch Park

The beach is really a beach. Unlike other places, it is a beautiful place. It has sand and teal, cool water for splashing and playing.

The mountain bike trails here are super fun, but they're not always available. If it rains a lot (and that doesn't really take long), the park will close them. That's because they're obviously very dangerous, especially thanks to the steep terrain throughout the area.

The park itself is over 2,427 acres and there is a lot to see here.

Another important reason to visit is the Reimers Observatory, which is located on Hamilton Road. You can take telescope classes here and see the star-filled night sky. It is worth the visit and the time of your day to visit this location.

Reimers Ranch has almost three full miles of continuous frontage along the river. It is the largest acquisition the park district made when it was purchased in the county.

Get there

You can access Milton Reimer's Ranch Rd, where the park entrance is located, just off of Hamilton Pool Road. It's definitely a bit far from the other areas in Dripping Springs, but you have plenty of parks to explore once you get there.

Cost

There is a parking fee of $5 (for the whole day). You will need to bring cash to pay for it.

Local Tips

  • The walk down to the beach is steep, and it can be a bit challenging for some, especially if you have any mobility issues or little children to hold onto as they walk.
  • During certain seasons, the walkway is open to cars as well since it is paved, and that makes it a bit less safe for the same reasons as above with little kids!
  • Contact the parks to learn about the monthly bird walks that they do if you want to get into birding with one of the pros.
  • If you plan to visit the astronomical observatory, call ahead of time to make reservations.
  • Hours are 7 am to civil twilight, so make sure you check the website for the exact closing time of the park.
