About

Rising to an impressive height of 9150 feet, Bald Mountain is an adventure waiting to unravel. This mountain is near Ketchum and has been drawing outdoor enthusiasts, especially skiers, from around the globe for decades.

Bald Mountain, fondly known as "Baldy," is a testament to Idaho's stunning natural beauty and outdoor recreation opportunities. The mountain's history is deeply intertwined with the state's gold rush era, giving it a unique charm that adds to its allure.

It has become a premier skiing destination today, thanks to its perfect-pitch vertical from peak to base.

The mountain is home to the Bald Mountain Ski Area, located amongst the vast Clearwater Mountains along the Gold Rush Historic Byway in North Central Idaho.

The ski area, run by the Clearwater Ski Club, offers a range of slopes for beginners and seasoned skiers. In fact, it's often affectionately referred to as "The Best Little Ski Hill in Idaho."

During summer, the Bald Mountain Trail offers a fantastic hiking experience. Starting at the River, this trail provides plentiful views and wildflowers, making it an excellent way to enjoy the mountain's beauty during the summer.

Fun Facts & Cool Features

One of the most captivating features of Bald Mountain is its exceptional verticality. Unlike many other ski mountains with flats or plateaus, Bald Mountain boasts nothing but downhill, making it a paradise for those who love the thrill of speed on their skis or snowboards.

The mountain's weather conditions are also noteworthy, offering reliable snow conditions with a base snow depth of 25 inches and a seasonal average of 12 inches.

On a typical day at the top of Bald Mountain, you can expect a temperature of around 30°F, mostly sunny skies, and a gentle westerly wind at 4 mph.

Not only does Bald Mountain offer an exhilarating skiing experience, but it also provides stunning panoramic views. From the top, you can see the vast Clearwater Mountains and the historic city of Ketchum. At night, the mountain transforms into a beautiful spectacle with the grooming of the ski slopes.

Baldy is also home to a variety of wildlife. As you hike or ski down its trails, don't be surprised if you encounter a deer or a moose. And if you're fortunate, you might spot a bald eagle soaring above the treetops.

Whether a seasoned skier, a hiking enthusiast, or a nature lover, Bald Mountain is an all-season adventure on a Sun Valley getaway.
