About

The Redwood Coast of California is full of creative artists, and there’s no better place to witness this than at the Trinidad Art Gallery. Stepping through the front door of the unassuming white building that houses the gallery and retail shop, you’ll immediately see why this is such a special gem of the area. Everything in here beautifully reflects the North Coast of California and more, and we wouldn’t think of leaving the area without at least one visit.

You can enjoy wandering through exquisite displays of original artwork, crafts, and gift items. Find that one of kind item to take home with you. You may also have a chance to talk with local artists and learn more about their techniques and where they draw their inspiration.

About

Trinidad Art Gallery, founded in 2021 by a group of local artists, is housed in a historic building once known as the Riecke House. The building was built in 1900 but has since been lovingly restored. The previous owner, Ned Simmons, was himself an artist, poet, and a big supporter of the arts in the county.

As a local artist cooperative gallery, it contains original art and gifts reflecting the natural beauty of the area, including redwoods, wildlife, and of course, the ocean, which inspires from just a short distance away.

On any given day, you may see any or all of the following, as the selection changes often from the local artists.

  • Paintings (watercolor, acrylic, and oil)
  • Photography
  • Prints
  • Sculpture
  • Mosaics
  • Blown Glass
  • Stained Glass & more!

Everyone shops here, including fine art collectors, locals who support their artistic community, and visitors searching for unique treasures to take home for themselves or as gifts.

The Trinidad Art Gallery (TAG, for short) is open daily between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Getting There

The art gallery sits in the tiny downtown area of Trinidad, not far from the Pacific Ocean to the west and the famous California redwoods in all other directions. The address is 490 Trinity St, Trinidad, CA.

If you’re on the 101, take the Trinidad exit (Exit 728). Once you reach the bottom of the exit ramp, head west toward the ocean. Main Street will curve to the left and become Trinity Street. The gallery is on your right. If you arrive at the Trinidad Memorial Lighthouse, you’ve gone one block too far.

Important Info

Inside the gallery, you’ll find unique gift ideas and art in a wide variety of price ranges. The gallery also participates in Trinidad Art Nights, which, depending on the year, can fall on the first Friday or last Saturday of each month (April – September, or May - October), between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.

Town businesses stay open during these times so you can sip on a glass of wine or enjoy a delicious meal or dessert in between or after perusing the creative offerings of Trinidad. Live music to enjoy is often a part of these evenings as well. Local artists attend the event and are happy to talk with you about art, inspiration, or the beautiful location in which you are all in at that moment.

What’s Nearby

Extend your stay in Trinidad by enjoying all that is nearby the gallery. You’ll have choices when it comes to where to eat, including:

  • The Trinidad Bay Eatery, right next door to the gallery, serving steaks and more.
  • The Lighthouse Grill, a cottage with a comfy patio where you can enjoy grass-fed burgers and mashed potato waffle cones for lunch or dinner.
  • Seascape Restaurant, just a few minutes’ walk from the gallery, with an ocean backdrop and serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
  • Wild at Hearth, tucked in a garden just two blocks from the ocean, with a wood fire stove for pizzas and a bakery.

Why not visit the Lighthouse Memorial Lighthouse a block away as well? There are also a few shops to enjoy.
